I totally agree with you: 1. she didn't diss Leona, 2. You gotta be tough in this business. My point is if you "love" everybody, including Perez Hilton, you should be politically correct to everyone image. There's no issue or feud, I just think there could've been more positive feedback.

Like I've said, Mariah herself was compared endless times to Whitney. She just could've been more comprehensive... a big sister... a mentor.... ! She didn't have to, of course, but she could've...

She was politically correct. And, why should she be a mentor to a reality tv show winner w/ one hit song. Mariah's got a record of her own to promote forget Leona.

Which is a shame, because whether or not you like her songs Leona seems like a nice girl and she does have talent, so it wouldn't be hard to say SOMETHING nice about her and then just move on. I don't think anyone is suggesting Mariah 'owes' anyone anything - saying something nice isn't a big deal for most people. Just because Mariah hasn't had a huge amount of grammys and has been around for a long time it means that she shouldn't say anything nice about Leona Lewis? Riiggghhhtttt. Lets not make things more complicated than they need to be.

What is she supposed to say if she doesn't know the girl or her music. Leona has one song. Mariah might not even know the song. I'm sorry Leona fans might not believe that. But, Mariah doesn't listen to pop music at ALL it seems. And, she didn't say anything mean about Leona. She didn't really say anything about Leona at all. And, I for one am tired of fans of new singers wanting Mariah to co-sign for them. Christina Ag fans are the same way. It just irks them that Mariah won't acknowledge Christina's triflin behind.

Mariah is the most savvy or one of the most savvy in the business. That's why she's where she's at... I am positive she knows who her competition are this week... she knows who went to no.1 she must've been following itunes and i am sure she must've enquired, "who is this leona?" because leona's been compared to mariah right from the start... right right from the start.

mariah knows... come onn they are battling for that coveted no.1 spot on the hot 100...she must've heard a snippet of the song AT LEAST.

Why not? If you feel as though saying something nice is that much of an imposition on you, you'll probably find it pretty hard to make friends.

And from the smart point of view, she could say something nice so that the whole thing doesn't get blown out of proportion, and Mariah isn't portrayed as being catty, which is inevitably what happens when you give a response like that (whether or not justified).

Dear Leona fan,

Mariah is a singer. She is not vying for president of the Leona Lewis fanclub. Nothing she said was catty. She said she LOVES everyone. But, like all fans of new singers you just have to hear Mariah compliment them by name. Newsflash: she doesn't have to compliment or co-sign the singers you like because you like them. Leona has enough people hyping her up. She doesn't deserve to have Mariah jump on the bandwagon as well. I'd rather this little quote. Then Mariah is WOWED by Leona. Leona's people would spin that into article after article. Leona needs to put in work before she gets to have Mariah Carey mention her name in any capacity.

Sincerely,

Runtellthat.

To be honest, I think Mariah is a lot stronger and more confident now than she ever was... she used to be intimidated, i think... a bit uncertain but she knows how much work she puts in... she loves her work...

I know, right? And it's not like Mariah knows this girl. She might've seen a performance here or there and probably heard the single BL, but
it's not like she's paying that much attention to her to notice whether or not she's nice. She just seems a little irritated about being compared
to some newbies and they being called 'the next Mariah Carey'. That would irritate me also.

*imagines some newbie coming to this forum, hating on europe and know something about the charts and all of a sudden being called the next Colson*

Mariah hasn't heard Clive's latest find, that currently has the #1 song in the country? Uhu. image

She's been finishing up her CD and doing promotion. Considering "BL" has just really caught on in the past few weeks and Mariah has no direct connection to Clive, it wouldn't be impossible.

You know Mariah knows every song in the Hot 100 top 20. She proved that in that Financial Times article.

Thank God, I can't STAND Leona $%@+%%% Lewis. UGH. The next Mariah my ass.

She leans back on the chaise-lounge, onto a black pillow. "Dah-ling," says the incorrigible Ms. Carey, with a final waft of toasted marshmallow, "you know how I like to lie down..."

Because she knew about Gwen Stefani? Please, Gwen is somebody that everybody is going to know about she's been around, and Leona hasn't.

To be honest I think it's more "the next Mariah" comments make Mariah feel old. We know the complex she has about her age.

umm maybe because Leona was praising Mariah constantly, one nice word wouldn't hurt her...its not like Leona is just anybody, her vocals are on the same level as Mariah's....at this point even stronger.

Obviously the reporters question was something along the lines of "What do you think about LL who people are saying is the new Mariah Carey?" or something along those lines, since MC answers with "if they're the new me can they come and do ......." That question is implying you are old basically and there's someone new to replace you....Who wouldn't blame MC for being a bit annoyed & 'catty' in her answer. It's not directed towards LL but the stupid question IMO.

i agree...she should be catty especially, when journalists suggest in a way ,that you have replacement, but with Leona its different, cause she praised Mariah and it would only bee correct if Mariah would acknowledge her,but Leona is a competition and it would be too much for MC,obviously to say anything nice.
But then again its UK and they've always been rude to MC,so i understand her not wanting to give them satisfaction.

^And is Mariah supposed to know that? I doubt Mariah has time to research her, and I bet if they met one another Mariah would see differently, but how is Mariah to know right now that Leona has said nice thing about her? I doubt she sits on youtube watching all her interviews and performances.

That quote was no doubt coaxed out of her and twisted, because I haven't seen Mariah talk nastily like that about anyone before. She's probably just sick of people saying "Leona is the next you!" which sounds like "your replacement" - no wonder she doesn't like that. Who would?
