wohhaaaaaa, I said the exact same thing yesterday to Danny!! Danny, tell them!!!! I'll repeat:

Mariah can't be expected to just shower any newcoming female singer who is compared to her with love. It's not because she's catty or because she's intimidated. Just imagine what she must feel like, having been in the business for almost 20 years, having written all of her songs (and barely getting recognized for it), having won less Grammys than newbies like Beyonce, Alicia Keys and Norah Jones. And now she's getting people comparing Leona to her all the damn time? It's annoying. Leona could be an amazing singer, but she has a LONG way to go before she can be called "the next Mariah Carey". For starters, she has to have more than one hit song. Why should Mariah give props to any newbie whose marketing vehicle has to drop her name in it? There have been too many singers compared to Mariah over the years, and guess what - NONE of them have managed to be half of who she is (at least probably in her opinion, and mine ), so why does she have to feel the need to jump on the new bandwagon that is Leona Lewis? Good for you Mariah, you don't owe anyone anything.

And Mama, have you seen/heard Leona's interviews? She's very humble and shy (pretty much like Mariah was back in the day), so it's not that hard to be scared next time she sees Mariah image. I mean, Mariah was once compared to Whitney and that was a huge compliment (that worked for her image).
Yeah, but if that simple comment Mariah made terrifies Leona, then she (Leona) is in the wrong business. It wasn't even really a direct comment ABOUT Leona, so I still don't see the issue. I rather the comment Mariah made, than for her to automatically say, "I love Leona. Yada, yada....," just to sound politically correct. She didn't persoanlly attack Leona or say anything bad about her.

And, I think the annoyance is not comparing people to Mariah, but saying so and so is the next Mariah Carey. Next Mariah Carey in what way?

I totally agree with you: 1. she didn't diss Leona, 2. You gotta be tough in this business. My point is if you "love" everybody, including Perez Hilton, you should be politically correct to everyone . There's no issue or feud, I just think there could've been more positive feedback.

Like I've said, Mariah herself was compared endless times to Whitney. She just could've been more comprehensive... a big sister... a mentor.... ! She didn't have to, of course, but she could've...

I didn't take it as well, I've only said she could've been nicer.
What for? She's not being rude or disrespectful to anyone. It's not up to you how she responds, mate, it's her mouth image.

Mate? Is that slang? I'm always learning

If there's some sort of (understandable and more than due) frustration on her comments, then she picked the wrong place and the wrong time to show it (IMO). I mean, Mariah isn't known for complaining (Khia, hello? ), so I still don't get this attitude.

Positivity to everyone, including Mariah, I believe

Look at it from Mariah's perspective; people are always comparing people to her and asking her about them. Mariah sees these ladies come and go, and while it's a compliment to compare them to her, it's also an insult because none of them have even come close to matching her success.

Read directly the quotes might seem harsh, but they aren't really. She just says the media always compares people to her and then asks if they can do her job for her. Big deal.

Well whatever people say, it seems as though Mariah doesn't want to say anything nice about Leona, and obviously the press is going to make a big deal about that. Which is a shame, because whether or not you like her songs Leona seems like a nice girl and she does have talent, so it wouldn't be hard to say SOMETHING nice about her and then just move on. I don't think anyone is suggesting Mariah 'owes' anyone anything - saying something nice isn't a big deal for most people. Just because Mariah hasn't had a huge amount of grammys and has been around for a long time it means that she shouldn't say anything nice about Leona Lewis? Riiggghhhtttt. Lets not make things more complicated than they need to be.

I agree. While I'm loving the unusual cattiness, I wish it was directed at someone who truly deserves it, e.g. Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson. This girl can actually sing, and she seems really sweet too.

I know, right? And it's not like Mariah knows this girl. She might've seen a performance here or there and probably heard the single BL, but it's not like she's paying that much attention to her to notice whether or not she's nice. She just seems a little irritated about being compared to some newbies and they being called 'the next Mariah Carey'. That would irritate me also.

What if Mariah truly hasn't even Leona sing? How can she be expected to be "nice" toward someone she hasn't met or even heard sing? Even if she's heard "BL," that's one song.

Jessica Simpson? I know you hate her and her voice, but she's always praised Mariah! Plus, she never forgot to mention the influence Mariah had on her. Unlike Christina, Jessica has always been humble towards more experienced artists. She's definitely the last person Mariah should trash.

^ I meant that Jessica is a terrible singer (even worse than Christina), so had Mariah made these catty comments against someone talentless like her, I'd be laughing my face off.

Honestly, I never ever feel that Leona can succeed in her career as much as we see. I see her talent and amazing voice but I do not see any emotion within songs she sings even when she performs live.

Leona's first album is not better than Mariah's first album, and obviously Leona is not Mariah and cannot be

Mariah hasn't heard Clive's latest find, that currently has the #1 song in the country? Uhu.

Why not? If you feel as though saying something nice is that much of an imposition on you, you'll probably find it pretty hard to make friends.

And from the smart point of view, she could say something nice so that the whole thing doesn't get blown out of proportion, and Mariah isn't portrayed as being catty, which is inevitably what happens when you give a response like that (whether or not justified).

She's been finishing up her CD and doing promotion. Considering "BL" has just really caught on in the past few weeks and Mariah has no direct connection to Clive, it wouldn't be impossible.

^^But if people keep comparing someone to Mariah, isn't that good? I mean, it's a testament of her relevancy and influence. I mean, she could've said that she's tired of people being compared to her throughout these years - and she did - but since Christina Aguilera/Jessica Simpson, we haven't had many comparisons of that nature. If someone's labeled as the next Mariah, that's something really respectful. If Mariah is known for giving love and positivity, she "should" sound less bothered and give positive feedback to anyone with talent (whether the artist is compared to her or not).

They're not comparing her. Some articles have the nerve to say look out Mariah like she'll lose her spot to Leona. That's the tone of a lot of it so how is Mariah supposed to feel about it. Why should she have to be nice about that.
