It seems that everyone and their grandmothers are recording 80s inspired music now: P. Diddy "Last Night", Maroon 5 "Makes Me Wonder", Nelly Fertado (practically her whole album), Jessica Simpson "Public Affair", and the list goes on.

It's not fair that Mariah always gets bashed for being innovative, and then a few years later other artists get praised for doing the exact same thing.:rolleyes

What do you guys think?

Not if it had 'Loverboy' for a first single

And also if it still had to deal with the movie and breakdown drama, then yes Glitter would definitely still bomb in '07.

I think not, only because it would have to be a

pretty big hit to even seel the numbers it did in the first place, considering record sales these days. And to add to that, what singles woulod do well from that CD? I can't think of like...any. But I love Glitter no matter what.

And you should add Gwen to the list of current 80's music.

Yeah, the main issue was

the breakdown and other bad press surrounding the project. I think the soundtrack would have sold better - but still not been huge - if removed from the breakdown and 9/11. That time had Mariah's breakdown joining in with the bad press for the film with 9/11 right on the heels of it (leading to Mariah being the joke people could go to in that time).

Re: Would The "Glitter" Soundtrack Sell Better in

Yeah I agree with everyone else.
Of course, 9/11 wouldn't be the same obstacle as it was, but given the only change you made was the fact that other artists were making 80s style music, then no, it probably wouldn't.

The CD itself, given better circumstances, of course it would have done better. It's a great CD. Maybe it would fit in a little better. But people just didn't want to buy it.

Yes, it would do much better

If the album wasn't attached to a movie, wasn't named "Glitter", "Loverboy" had the original "Firecracker" sample Mariah intended to use and "All My Life" was released as a second single.

The album was artistically great. It just wasn't given a chance and was sabotaged by Tommy.

But yeah, '80s inspired music has seen a resurgence and "Glitter" was a brilliant revisitation and interpretation of that era. Her vocals were excellent, some of the best she's ever put on record.
