Right, so assuming it all falls under the umbrella of AC, she's still doing that now. She was doing it on CB, TEOM and will probably do it on the new album. So what is your problem? Other than kicking up a fuss because the one song from it you've heard you don't like?

But according to Jasp., Mariah is done with AC because its cheesy. image

And my problem is not with Mariah, its with Mariah's fans who believe she should only be making hip/hop influenced music.

Exactly! haha ... But I wouldn't say all of her fans are like that... I think what happens is, people who have something critical to say about Mariah just get bitten to pieces at places like FOMM, so they just stop coming. I would venture to say that more people are upset with "Touch My Body" than who aren't... Opinions are this board are a LITTLE BIT biased.

Yeah, this is board is very biased. If you have a different opinion from the millions of stans here, prepare to be crucified!! Why do you think more and more people from this board are going over to TBR? Because of people like Kevo and Rebirth who eloquently attack people over things they dont agree on.

Why? When he meant AC he clearly meant the pop AC like 'All I've Ever Wanted'. You're just jumping on a technicality that 90% of what Mariah does is "AC" in some form because she's generally quite middle of the road.

And even if he doesn't like them, why do you care? Does it really matter? Or affect your enjoyment of it?

LOL @ saying we "eloquently attack" you when we disagree. That's not an attack, which even you know, which is why you said it was done "eloquently". It's called having an argument with some substance under it, while you and jeremimi are the two that have been throwing out the personal insults when YOU disagree.

...and I want you to show me all the people that you're saying don't want her singing songs like "Fly Like A Bird". The people that are being told to stop whining and go listen to Celine Dion, are the people who think she should still be singing songs like "Hero" and that "Through The Rain" was an amazing, progressive career step for Mariah.

I just said, if you read above, that Jasp. says that AC ballads have played no part in him becoming a fan. WHAT IS FLAB, CIRCLES, MINE AGAIN, I WISH YOU KNEW. AC BALLADS!!!!! They are not pop a/c, they are urban a/c, but nonetheless they are still AC. And apparently people dont want her to be making AC stuff anymore because its cheesy.

You and I both know what he meant by AC ballads. Stop using the same technicality to make yourself look like you're right.

Grow up. Just because you're going around in circles, making no sense and have the debating ability of a fruit fly doesn't mean you have the right to play the "stan" card. As if I'm like that at all. If you actually read any of my posts you'd see that I'm actually critical of Mariah when I want to be, and I have no problem with people not sharing my view, if they can give a valid argument behind it. Something you failed at on all accounts.

Loved this part of your post! And I totally agree with you! After Mariah clearly dissing Hero (everyone who owns the TAOM dvd knows that), I've become more understanding as a fan, you know? It must be hard trying to please everyone but yourself.

Just because she loves some Olivia Newton John songs from Grease, like any young girl who grew up in the 70's, does not mean that she's been repressing that side of her. image

Totally agreed! Add George Michael to the Pop influences! I would love to see Mariah covering Faith or One More Try

I would say that Mine Again, Circles, I Wish You Knew (although it is ultra cheesy) all have straight up urban appeal. That does not mean it has to be A/C because they are ballads. They are urban songs with straight up urban appeal.

Do you know how the AC formats work? For example, a song like Shake It Off did failry well on urban AC stations. And that isn't a ballad. Please explain your logic.

If you debate in other threads the way you're doing in this one, I'm not surprised people would question your intelligence. Rather than post any factual information or bother to make sense, you've spent a good hour talking in circles and going back to square one when you've been proven wrong just because you have no way to win your argument.

Actually no I did not know what he meant. Why do you think I was puzzled as to why this big TEOM and current day Mariah fan was dissing AC ballads. Why does everyone assume that when I say I like Mariah's ballads, that I mean the ballads on Music Box? I loathe Just to hold you once again, and When I Saw you.

Because you've had several people tell you that he did not mean songs like the Mimi ballads when he said AC, and yet you keep going back again and again to your same argument. You're arguing with yourself now.

The original argument was that Mariah likes other music that is not just hip hop influenced. I think we pretty much agreed on that. You guys continued the argument by saying that I liked cheesy music, and that pissed me off because I dont feel like songs like Vision of Love and FLAB are cheesy.

Well then I would like to know just exactly what ballads he finds cheesy, if he is not referring to the ones on TEOM.

I agree. I guess the last formulaic Pop ballads were Lead The Way and Never Too Far. Even Through The Rain is R'n'B flavoured.

Anyone who considers 'FLAB' or 'Circles' or 'VOL' AC in this context is brain dead or just trying to weasel their way out of being proven wrong. When we say AC, we mean 'Music Box' type ballads. Not 70's soul. This is the stupidest debate I've ever read, not because there haven't been intelligent arguements, but because a certain poster keeps changing their arguement. Either you miss Mariah's AC or you don't, but don't try to get out of it by saying, "Oh, but by AC, I meant 'Get Your Number'!"

Plz, none of those songs you listed could ever have been played on a station like Hot 97. I think its easier for a midtempo song like SIO to be played on an AC station than it is for a ballad to be played on an urban hiphop station like Hot 97 or Power 106.
