It depends what you mean by "ballad". Mariah's in a whole new space creatively now. I'm sure she'll have a few ballads on there, not just one. Even if "Bye Bye" is the only one, it's no big deal as long as the rest of the music is quality and strong.

All for moving forwards and change.

Yeah, Mariah is all about the mid-tempos, which are the 00's version of the 90's power ballads. I think i remember reading that Love Story is a classic Mariah ballad too, so i would expect at least two Mariah ballads, but i foresee three, like WBT-MA-Circles, and one gospel track, which you could count as a ballad, if you're really thirsty....but she's really about the the grooves and jams lately, which is nice.

And i wouldn't worry, when Mariah is older, she'll have albums full of classic balladsimageimageimage

mariah loves jazz and soul ballads, its not just hip-hop inspired midtempos. in fact, she loves gospel and jazz and TRUE r&b like aretha and stevie over that !!@@ "r&b" rihannaesque crap that is out there today. so stop talking out ur a$$es and saying that MC is doing this hip.hop r&b becuase thats what she truly lovez... when in fact shez only doing it for commercial reasons, not artistic ones. until mariah becomes an indie artist, we aint neva gonna see the real MC. oh and she does like a/c ballads, she said so in 2005 she says she still listens to baraba streisand ballads. so get over ur midtempo crap. god.

There is definitely a change in Mariah's direction and that became obvious first with CB and then with TEOM..I'm not in the least comparing these two albums but you don't find any "classic Mariah ballads" in them..And these ballads once upon a time used to be her trademark..And there are people like me,call us romantic,old-fashioned,whatever,who still expect to hear Mariah belting and doing her magic in a song like that..Why does "moving forwards" have to mean skipping those songs and just giving us the "We belong together" type of ballads? There is nothing wrong with it but, when it comes to ballads,I want the real thing..The last time we actually heard classic Mariah ballads was in Rainbow (I'm letting aside Glitter)..And these songs like Can't take that away or Petals or even her cover of Against all odds stand out in her catalogue, are fan and non-fan favorites and have longevity..The ballads of 2000 and onwards lack that quality..

Hun, you need to start learning some R-E-S-P-E-C-T. That, and stop typing like a 12 year old girl. is it that hard to type "NEVER" as opposed to "NEVA"??? or "loves" with an "s" and not a "z"? I didn't think so.

And not to burst your "I'm so intelligent, aren't I?" bubble, but Mariah is a self-proclaimed lover and appreciator of music in general, she listens to everything from gospel to underground hip hop to Barbara Streisand to Def Leppard. She's influenced by the art of music. That said, RIGHT NOW, in her current frame of mind, where she is in her life, the bouncy midtempo's with breezy lyrics and fun chorus lines seem to be where she's at. So how about YOU get over your preconceived notion of what is influencing Mariah right now and accept that Mariah isn't the A/C artist she used to be and probably never will be again. If it's A/C you want, then Leona Lewis is your girl, or Celine Dion. Mariah is a trendy artist, she helps create them and then rides them until the tide changes. Get used to it, dahhhling, it's been happening since the start of her career.

And I didn't mention A/C until the very end of my post, I was talking about Jazz, Gospel, and real R&B. Ya know, classic soul music like aretha franklin, luther vandross, patti labelle, stevie wonder. Not Beyonce and Rihanna.

Just because something influenced Mariah back in 1990 doesn't mean she doesn't have some different influences now. Do you have all the same favorite things you had 18 years ago? Not really a valid argument on your part.

H, very interesting point you 've made about her real favourite music and style!she obviously has pressure and desire to sell very big so this is def a factor in choosing the musci styles ending up on her records.
Btw, where did she say that about A?C ballads and Barbara Streissand?Ive never heard it and it's most intriguing.

No, I think if Mariah went back to doing the Music Box ballads it would just be an opportunity for people to complain that she isn't the same vocally anymore. And I promise you it'll be the people like yourselves who want them back so that would be first in line to complain about it.

Not to mention, it would flop big time. I know I'd personally hate another 'Music Box', because the only good things about that album were its vocals and success, and an AC record in 08 would have neither.

Guys, it's been almost 15 years since Music Box and almost 13 years since she showed any signs of being a pop/AC artist. GIVE IT UP!!

Trust me- some people will never, ever give it up. Mariah could go heavy metal and they'd still be waiting around for some AC ballads.

Hip hop is also - how did you put it? - one of her "true" influences, she just couldn't explore it because of a little man named Tommy Mottolla.

You need to learn how you argue, because your argument is so full of fallacies that it's one giant slippery slope...it's laughable. Eh, not like i expect to have intelligent discussions here most of the time anyway. At least not with fans who want her to go back to Music Boximage. Oh, btw, if Lead the Way, Never Too Far, Through the Rain, Circles and MA didn't make you happy, then i don't know what to tell you, just leave Mariah be at this point, because the music she's making right now is what she wants to make right now.

An artist, whether it be an actual artist, a musician, a writer, etc., is allowed to have more than one influence. You clearly aren't an artist because if you were you would know that. I'm a writer, and i have more than one influence from many different genres, but I'm generally a creative nonfiction writer. Yet my biggest influence is JD Salinger, a fiction writer. See my point? You probably don't, but that's because you're so narrow-minded.

Oh, and one more thing, if i don't like the music, i won't defend it. Don't generalize in that group of deranged lambs who defend Mariah no matter what. If i don't like it, i'll say it. If Mariah released an album of all A/C Music Box-inspired ballads tomorrow, i would buy it out of support, but i would HATE it. I hate Music Box, it lacks any sort of creativity or passion; it's cold and calculated, it's the most UN-Mariah project she's done. I happen to appreciate ALL genres of music, from country to hip hop, from pop to rock, jazz to gospel, indie to mainstream, classical to trance....I'm not so closed off from reality that i would say "Mariah doesn't have any other influences besides jazz, gospel and (whatever you classify REAL as) R&B."

Fine. She doesn't make the music she "truely" loves. She only makes crap these days.
