Well Roger Friedman has been praising Mariah constantly since she got involved with Benny Medina. I think he would have given a positive review regardless of the actual music.

Actually before that.

For real now. It's unbelievable. And it's been like that for years now.

Wow, he gave us a song title we haven't heard before, "Last Kiss". That sounds interesting. And it also seems like he thought "Migrate" should've been the first single.image

He said it should be the album's "kick-off track", which means the first song on the album (e.g. "It's Like That" etc). Not the first single.

He's the first one who made some comment on her voice on the album. There was one comment on that in a 'CB'review,I'm not sure if there was something about the 'TEOM'vocals, too in its reviews.
And if "I'm that chick" is indeed breathy and supposedly L.A. wanted this to be the first single as he has supported SS before,I'm starting to wonder whether he enjoys/supports her breathy vocals a bit too much.
Anyway, can't wait for other reviews, esp.Billboard and radio DJs' comments!

Thanks for posting! I am excitied to hear the album...I am glad to hear he thinks it will be "sustainable." I think I heard somewhere "Bye Bye" is going to be like a modern-day "One Sweet Day" so it'll be great to hear that song.

There's nothing wrong with "breathy" when it's done tastefully. Also depends on the track. Breathy vocals really suit certain instrumentation (e.g. "So Lonely).

And I personally think that when she's rested, her "breathy" register sounds really silky and quite pretty. Proven on "Touch My Body".

The breathy vocals onb TMB are kind of hidden though...

How are they hidden?

Both the first and second verses are breathy, and she switches between full-voice and falsetto in the pre-chorus.

I don't know why people see "Touch My Body" as the "warm up"? Just because it's not typical, doesn't mean it's the wrong first single.

This is the first single, people, and it's doing amazing!

Well she sings the high voice from the verses in a breathy way yes, but the layer that is 1 octave lower is not..sow ell..it's kinda mixed.

I wrote about how her voice is seen in reviews.I did not say anything about her breathy vocals being good/bad although personally I prefer the "full " beauty of her voice with a touch of breathy in a right place or two.

Yep, it's mixed more so than "It's Like That" or "We Belong Together". So that's why I don't see the big deal. She sounds great singing breathy when it's done tastefully.

I'd go as far as saying that 'Say Something' would have generated more buzz than 'It's like that' because of the production and names associated with it; despite the hateration this song gets, it's one of the coolest/slickest tracks on TEOM and wouldn't have worked without 'breathy vocals' That leads me to think that 'That Chick' is probably in the same vein - a cool, stylish, laid back jam with Mariah coo-ing along and not belting, that L.A thought would get people talking. Instead I'm predicting pople having a similar reaction to this song as they had to Say Something, just because the word 'breathy' is mentioned. Can't wait for Cruise Control. Mariah + Reggae = (semi) new and experimental and I CANNOT wait!

She's definitely branching out on this album and we can see why she's taken her time. See this is what it's about. Quality music. I'd rather have that than a rushed album with not so great material.
