We're not proving you wrong, you are. 'MA' was nominated for traditional RnB, so in my eyes, that is what it is. yes, it's AC friendly, but that doesn't mean that's what it is. Almost every slower song Mariah's ever done could be labelled as AC with your logic.

The crazy person said that 'MA' is urban AC, which yeah, sure, fine. But what we've been arguing this thread is that we aren't talking about urban AC, we're talking about AC, i.e. pop AC i.e. 'Music Box'. She still doesn't seem to get that .

She gets it. She just refuses to admit she's wrong.

Wrong about what? Something that was not made clear in the first place?

What I would like to know is how you feel about your initial post that started this all.

You said that you feel MC does not make music she wants to make, becasue she is being commercial.
You said YOU missed the AC songs, and then claimed that MC still wants to make those, but won't because it won't catch on.
Do you still feel this way after this whole discussion???
Do you still HONESTLY believe that the music she now makes is just something she is forced to do, but that she would really like to go back to the Music boxes & daydreams?

I love Never Forget You image! I thought that track was one of the most R'n'B flavoured tracks off Music Box!

Yep, NFY was one the saving graces of that album. It's definitely not AC in the Celine vein.

I dunno why but I always thought NFY had a bit of a country twang to the instrumentation.

I know what you mean but I see it more as a Babyface signature. He used to do it a lot. Listen to End of the Road and I'll Make Love to You. NFY is one of the more R&B songs on MB.

Hmmm I just don't like the sweet babyface production, I agree that musically it's edgier than the rest of the album, but still, not one of my favesimage

I think Charmbracelet was a good reflection of her as an artist. It had a little bit of everything. Midtempos, ballads, hip/hop, jazz, gospel. If she was going to make the most true to herself album I think it would be a LOT more gospel. She said numerous times that FLAB was her favorite on TEOM, above all of the midtempos, even above SIO which we know shes crazy about. I don't think she nececcarily loved the production on ballads Music Box and Daydream. The Emotions album was very jazz and soul influenced, and when that flopped, it was Tommy's decision to go running to Pop hills. She wrote the music, but was likely not feeling it. Does that mean I can't like Hero? I know she doesn't particularly love it, but I think it's great. And I know millions agree with me. Same with AYNAF. The rest of the album's ballads are boring IMO and should have been replaced with Do You Think of Me and Everything Fades Away.

Well okay i can relate to this post, but it was definetely not what i read in your initial reactions.

FLAB is one of my faves, MSG is one of my least faves(because again, it's a lot more *yawn* than flab).
I would love if she did more gospels like FLAB.

^There's nothing wrong with you liking 'Hero'. What is wrong is you attacking people for not sharing that like for it, like you did in your intial post.

No one said you shouldn't like it. "Music Box" is the album that made me a fan. "Everything Fades Away" is one of my favorite songs by her and beats any ballad she did post the Butterfly album. Her vocals on the "Anytime You Need A Friend" remix need to be taught in music schools. The whole discussion here was stemmed from your frustration that she doesn't make these sort of records anymore. Both you and Jeremy have previously tried attacking her credibility for it and that's what people reacted to. There's a difference between saying "I want her to do AC ballads" and "She doesn't do AC ballads because she wants to be popular".

Anyway after read Roger Friedman positive reviews about this album, I couldn't wait to hear the result. This few months later will be exciting for me and nervous also.

I think Liron sums it up best when she says:

Had you articulated this initially, the rest of this thread would have gone in a MUCH different direction. Maybe you just didn't know how to say it at that point, i don't know....but you just weren't getting it.

I think the bottom line here is (actually, there are three bottom lines):

1.) Nobody said you should or shouldn't like something. Like what you like, that's the beauty of having an opinion

2.) You shouldn't attack anybody for not agreeing with you. Having an intelligent discussion where you can UNDERSTAND each others points of view and a heated argument where you are being portrayed as ignorant and thick headed because your comments read as such are two different things.

3.) Never ASSUME that EVERYBODY agrees with you. Sure, there are always people that share the same opinion as you, but for every one person you find that shares the same opinion, there are five more with five totally different opinions. Don't don't lump together "millions" of fans, saying that they agree with you. Because sure, we can all speculate until the cows come home on what influences Mariah the most in her music, but we'll never truly know, as you can never really know a celebrity like Mariah...we all just claim we know everything about Mariah because of her persona.

Apart from the generic lyrics, I like Music Box as well. That isn't to say it's my favorite or that I don't like what she does now, but I definitely don't see MB as some crap project or anything. And regardless of whether or not she felt the songs, I feel her vocals on it. Maybe her not wanting to do the songs worked, because she sounds so lonely to me on that CD. Her vocal on songs like "Just To Hold You Once Again" really reveal the personal turmoil she had, even if the lyrics aren't so descriptive.

Exactly! The vocals are really moving and emotional, if indeed not for her, then for very many listeneres around the world and there are many songs off of this album, including B-sides which are still dearly loved and remembered while in comparison there've been quite a few posts here claiming that TEOM soon became forgettable( which I don't completely support). It's become a trend and cool to hate on this album like there's no tomorrow which is too much, really! So many fans and reviews have said that she could sing the phone book with THAT voice and it'd still be amazing!
And Mariah proclaimed how she loved BINY,for example, and she was the one who insisted on releasing it, so she must have sung it with a real, authentic desire-unlike the MB album, but somehow MB turned out to be the product of an incomparably greater quality.
She's done incredible things after it but MB has earned its place in her discography and I'm sure she herself wouldn't get rid of the love and sales it brought her!Whether she really put her self into it or not ,her voice could reach and impact emotionally almost everyone not just in the USA but from around the world. That alone deserves respect!
And as for the ballads , My own favourites are not from MB, but from the debut album and Emotions, and they were not exactly A/C-just gorgeous in every way.
