Actually no I did not know what he meant. Why do you think I was puzzled as to why this big TEOM and current day Mariah fan was dissing AC ballads. Why does everyone assume that when I say I like Mariah's ballads, that I mean the ballads on Music Box? I loathe Just to hold you once again, and When I Saw you.

Because you've had several people tell you that he did not mean songs like the Mimi ballads when he said AC, and yet you keep going back again and again to your same argument. You're arguing with yourself now.

Well then I would like to know just exactly what ballads he finds cheesy, if he is not referring to the ones on TEOM.

? It's blatantly obvious he was referring to the Music Box ballads, then 'WISY's, the 'WYC's. When we talk about AC here, the chances are we're talking about those kind of songs not "FLAB because technically it's gospel/AC". We're talking about the full on, pop AC that wouldn't look out of place on a Celine album.

Well then he must have skipped over a lot of TEOM then, because Mine Again, Circles, I Wish U Knew, and FLAB are all urban a/c.
I would say that Mine Again, Circles, I Wish You Knew (although it is ultra cheesy) all have straight up urban appeal. That does not mean it has to be A/C because they are ballads. They are urban songs with straight up urban appeal.

Do you know how the AC formats work? For example, a song like Shake It Off did failry well on urban AC stations. And that isn't a ballad. Please explain your logic.

Plz, none of those songs you listed could ever have been played on a station like Hot 97. I think its easier for a midtempo song like SIO to be played on an AC station than it is for a ballad to be played on an urban hiphop station like Hot 97 or Power 106.

Do you even listen to Hot 97? Two of their most played songs are "Like You'll Never See Me Again" and "I'll Remember," two ballads.

I dunno why but I always thought NFY had a bit of a country twang to the instrumentation. But sorry, strictly speaking we all know it's country RnB pop A/C. image

I don't mind 'NFY' either. In the context of 'Music Box', it's R&Bish, but as a song, it's one of her most AC. It's actually vaguely country-ish too.

Either you miss Mariah's AC or you don't, but don't try to get out of it by saying, "Oh, but by AC, I meant 'Get Your Number'!"

Let me get one thing straight with you, no one proved me wrong, ok? They just ganged up and tried to make me look like a fool by putting words in my mouth, like saying I love Celine Dion or Leona Lewis type songs. image

Secondly, Mine Again was nominated for a grammy in what category? Traditional r&b song. It was played on what stations? Urban A/C. It's an urban a/c song. Just like "Forever" is a Pop A/C song that would be played on a Lite FM station.

You must not know bout Alica Keys, Mary J Blige, Keyshia Cole, etc.etc.,etc., who manage to get airplay on hot 97 with urban songs that are ballads...I live in the area and hear songs by them all the time. Don't give me that excuse. The songs you mentioned are strictly urban. They are not urban AC or however you want to put it.

OMG I had gone away for 30 minutes and i have read my name a thousand times.

MARIAH10CAREYCCWHATEVRBLABLA...

What I mean is, that I don't like the sirupy ballads, you know CHEESY stuff as i stated before.
That does not mean that I don't appreciate songs like VOL, etc. because IMO they are not at all cheesy. not even AC.

And why do you have a problem with me not liking these songs anyway?? Can't I have my own musical taste??
I am glad Mariah makes the music she makes today, and I am glad that on TEOM there is not 1 AC ballad, because they do NOT appeal to me.
And I think Mariah also never liked that type of music.

That's all.

We're not proving you wrong, you are. 'MA' was nominated for traditional RnB, so in my eyes, that is what it is. yes, it's AC friendly, but that doesn't mean that's what it is. Almost every slower song Mariah's ever done could be labelled as AC with your logic.

Yeah MA is not AC in my opinion.
The instrumentation is very neo-soul, and the melody is kind of uplifting for a ballad.

Uhh.. yeah, just like most urban stations that go from rap to R&B ballads, but you wouldn't know about urban stations because you listen to Celine and Leona Lewis. image

Really Rebirth? I coulda sworn I totally trashed Leona in another thread recently, and have only heard maybe 2 or 3 at most Celine songs in my life.
