Well, with "Karma" she taught the world that 'what goes around comes around, what goes up must come down'. Quite insightful.

LOL!

I don't personally find Alicia insightful, but I like some of her music regardless. I also don't particularly find much insightful about U2 or Madonna's music.

Maybe not all of the time, but I would say songs like "If God Will Send His Angels" and "One" (U2) and "Live To Tell" and "Drowned World" (Madonna) offer more than Alicia has to this point.

Agreed. Maybe "insightful" isn't the right word, but Madonna, U2, and many other acts have released music far more deep/thought provoking than Alicia. The deepest song she's had is 'My Life' which is just a Mary J Blige rip-off, lyrically.

Oh, I'm with both of you that they have had more thought provoking or insightful lyrics than Alicia. I was just kidding about Karma obviously. And as for Madonna and U2, nothing they have done is really that thought provoking, the few things they've done felt trite and forced.

However there are plenty of people who have moved me with their lyrics, and I felt that it was genuine. To me that's important.

"No One" moves to #10 on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs in its 3rd week on the chart.

Is there a radio edit or something of "You Don't Know My Name" that cuts out at least a little of the talking? I love the song in general, but the talking annoys me. I'd love to find a version where the talking is at least edited some.

The talking is the best part! Well, not the best, but the song would definitely wouldn't be the same without it.

Good to know your opinion, but that doesn't answer my question image

Anyway, I hate talking in songs in general, and the talking in "YDKMN" just goes on forever. I really love the production and Alicia's (singing) vocal, though.

I've heard a radio edit, but it includes the talking. There is probably one without the talking though.

The version they played here had the talking, too.

USA Today on the Airplay Charts:

Alicia Keys couldn't be expected to match her 103.9% audience gain of last week, but her No One tops the list again with a 30.7% improvement, which nets her a 46-24 chart gain.

What does Alicia mean in this quote to Entertainment Weekly:

''I used to be a wall-building, feeling-hiding con artist. I'm at a whole other place now. I'm gonna tell it how it is and how I feel it. I'm not gonna sacrifice my spirit for nobody.''

yeah, that album cover does look really bad. i think the font makes it much worse. her Diary album cover remains my favorite. Songs In A Minor wasn't bad either.

I'd say it means that she's coming out of her shell more and revealing the person "As I Am"

I think she's takign the first step to coming out as a lesbian -- but I highly doubt that shes going to be public about her sexuality-- maybe just coming out to herself. Its crazy brave of her to call herself a con artist. I've always loved her but never believed songs like a Woman's Worth where shes picking her man's afro and all that. She always wrote songs on a universal level. Something to touch all people on a really general level -- songs like Fallin Womans Worth, IfIAGY, YDKMN.... all sort of great love songs -- but obviously not very personal.... I think this is the reason I love her songwriting, because I can totally feel every ounce of emotion that her lyrics convey and hear the pain and turmoil, and pleasure in her voice and still feel that none of what she sings about are direct references to her own personal life. Just her interpretation of what it means to be a human being.

the song Thats the Thing About Love is a good clue as to her current state of mind
"tell me that I am not the only one whos going through it all/Oh sometimes I feel like I'm the only one whos going through it all/Oh its my time/its my time/for me to shine"
