I am more of a lurker here but I would like to add my two cents after I read said thread where this went down. I always read the housewives thread and there is so much shade in that thread that when I read Gawain's comment, I laughed and thought nothing of it until I read a couple more posts.
I will say that I thought the ban was a bit too much in my eyes especially coming from Carlos himself as he was "under attack." I have seen it mentioned once in this thread and I believe only once, but I feel another mod should have stepped in and decided what the appropriate thing to do is. The problem right now is that this is all personal. If the outcome of the 3 day ban was done by another admin/mod, I think this issue might be a mute point. When it comes to personal issues and not posting rules that he did offend, another mod really should have resolved this issue. I'm not involved or even pay attention to the day to day politics of the board, but I can see why people are saying dictator like comments. Not that I see or think that, but as I've said had this situation been handled by another mod, I don't think the board would be in this predicament
And, as far as I know, that is the entire attraction of the show so it is suitable to that particular thread (unless of course it is truly malicious and people are honestly being offended) - however, do I think or like that that kind of behaviour, talk, gifs etc filters through to other areas of the board? No. I don't like it at all, *personally* because it's not something I myself consider entertaining or entertainment nor is it a way in which I would find interesting to converse in. But I scroll through it and keep it moving. Is it an issue that needs to be addressed? Maybe. And issues/topics are something we will be looking at for members to bring up in the future to discuss with each other and admins. So, we will leave it and I'm sure, plenty of other topics until then.
It is the intent and context which must be considered when someone is calling someone else a name etc as to if it can be deemed offensive or just a misunderstanding, etc. But people also need to be aware that not everyone converses in that manner or is at all familiar with the majority of those terms.
