Does anybody else like, or love, Charmbracelet?

Personally, Chamrbracelet is my faviorte album by Mariah Carey, I don't skip once. I understand why people dislike the album, whipery vocals, bad production, odd lyrics, but to me, Mariah doesn't show weakness, she shows uniqueness. The album would more relate to teenagers and (young) adults, like me, who go through stuff she talks about (death, depression, love, breakup, friendship and relationship) which is basically still the Mariah from the past.
Even though the album might not be the strongest by most fans, as a lamb, I can say it's a pretty good album of the [early] 2000s, becuase it shows that Mariah at 32 can still sing about teen stuff that most of the young artist sings/raps about. Charmbracelet does show that same concept mst artist did but with a fusion of R&B and Hip-Pop (yes, hip-pop) in the album than teen-pop or just Pop in general.

Favourite three tracks: The One, You Got Me (ft. Jay-Z and Freeway) and Yours

It's at the bottom of the list for me. I can't stand the whispers and some of the songs are just bad: Irresistible, Yours and especially Boy (I Need You).

I can't remember the last time I listened to it in full.

The last track I listened from it most recently was BOTH.

Fave tracks MSG, BOTH & The One but it sounds little dated.

Also, welcome to the board!

Charmbracelet is a winter snoozing feast. I seldom listen to it during Summer, but when the season hits the snow, Charmbracelet unravels

I enjoy it. My faves are: The One, You Got Me, I Only Wanted, Clown, You Had Your Chance, Lullaby, Subtle Invitation (the last five songs are lyrical masterpieces). But I can typically play this album without skipping any tracks.

It has some really nice moments, including You Had Your Chance which to me is one of her best tracks ever.

Also the album concept, booklet design and look of the CD are all so gorgeous. Same with the promotional photos that preceded the album release. She looked stunning in them.

Very well written songs, high quality music, horrendous production (  I can't believe she heard the finished product and let it  come out like that), not good vocals, but they were so emotional, too. It's  one of her most genuine and honest records.Had it been recorded with great vocals and production it would have been incredible.
I adore Lullaby as it is!
Quite like IOW,YHYC and BOTH.
And she looked just stunning at the time+ the tour was her best since Daydream.

Strictly song-wise it's one of her best albums; The One, Yours, YGM, IOW, Clown, YHYC, Miss You, Lullaby, SI, TGMH- all great songs. But as we know it was brought down by the poor vocals. I do listen to it every now and then when I'm in the mood for something laidback and easy.

It has its fans and I can see why. Personally, I wasn't a fan of it even on release but I appreciate its good points. It has some utterly stunning songs like SI and BOTH (best cover of her career I feel) but its bogged down by a lot of urban filler with unremarkable production and of course, those whisper vocals. Lyrically, its a very solid album with emotive, insightful and clear storytelling. The next album she did that matched it was MIAM, over a decade later.

I've come to feel CB actually gets better retrospectively in the lifespan of her catalogue.

It was, at the time, a bit of an uneventful album (at a time we needed an event) but in hindsight was the last real classic Mariah Carey album formula before TEOM reignited her sound (and the industry) before the downward spiral of popculture phrases, song rehashes and sing/speak delivery structures over melody we saw in E=MC2 and Memoirs.

Re: Do People Like 'Charmbracelet'?

It's alright. I have to be in the right mood for it to not let it's potential for the album it could have been with better production depress or annoy me. Lyrically it's particularly powerful and there are a lot of good ideas and musicality in there -- but that flat production just turns it all into a canvas of murkiness.

Murky is a very good description of CB. A lot of the songs feels smothered and lacking a crispness or sparkle to the sound. The fact there are a lot of songs on the album doesn't help. Its like your wading through it. A slightly tighter album would have lessened this. I reckon CB could have lost about two or three tracks around the middle part, you'd have lost some filler.

I like it but I feel like it was a waste of good songs. The songs were beautifully written, lyrically and melodically. It was a Mariah album through and through. I think what lets it down is the mumbly, whispery vocals that just got lost in the production. A real shame because the songwriting on the album is amongst her strongest.

I love it but whoever mixed and mastered the songs should never be let into a studio again. I think the problem with the vocals isn't the vocals themselves and it's more how they were recorded, mixed, and mastered with that hissing sound (which was also present on FLAB and other teom songs). Some of the songs it sounded like she was under water or in a well. But the songs themselves are some of her most creative and melodic.

The production is poor but the vocals are definitely the main problem. I mean Lullaby is a mumbly mess. Which is a shame because melodically and lyrically it's a good song.
