What is C and F redundant with though, is it integrated elsewhere? I get some of the other sections but there were a lot of posts in there and some recent ones too.

C and F hadn't seen a single post in months. It was redundant. Plus, it realistically didn't belong on this board to start with.

It had not seen a single post or new topic in 6 months. Yes, there were 2/3 responses a few days ago (and nothing else since) in the General thread but the decision had already been made and they did not warrant re-consideration of the forum's removal. The zero participation/activity by members since November last year determined the decision as well as what Carlos mentioned.

Ok. I'm just wondering where some of the more off color/off topic conversation would go then -- I assume the general discussion general random thoughts area?

Within reason, yes.

Well, I'm wondering what it would have hurt anything to keep it open? And where did all of the old posts go? To trash, or are they now in the general forum? If so that's a bit worrisome, I think, because we all posted whatever we did in there under the impression that only a small group of trusted/approved posters would see it. If they've been trashed, well... so long to those hilarious memories!

You mean the stuff in C & F? No, it hasn't been made public. Understandably, we know people would not want that stuff suddenly out for all to see.

Yeah, I agree it is a little sad just to lose all of that history and discussion. I guess what I'm getting at is --- that area had different rules and provided a landing place for stuff that was sensitive in terms of the general population in. It was a "safe place" for it. Now there isn't a place for that. Assuming that the general thread isn't the same rulebook, then what are the rules of say -- having a discussion that veers into blatantly sexual content for the purposes of humor?

Some fruity humour is allowed of course and we should all be responsible enough to know when its getting TMI. If people desperately want to talk about their last shag, sexual position in the bedroom, soft fruit of choice or whatnot then there are other more appropriate boards for that on the internet. Plenty, I'd wager.

This is first and foremost a Mariah Carey discussion board. Everything else is secondary. The forum was all but dead and buried for a continuous six months because no-one had posted anything since last November. This clearly shows a major lack of interest in such topics and discussions of this nature by the those who were approved to post in there.

While that may be true, you have not answered my question... what would it have hurt to leave it be? There is no limit to the number of sections we can have on the board or maximum number of posts on the board, are there? If not, why does it matter? Okay, we didn't post in it for a few months, but so what? It seems like you are just against the idea, Carlos, or think its existence on a MC board is inappropriate or something.

Perhaps it could be repurposed, as Robbie said, because it was a private place where longtime members could post more private things. While yes, it first and foremost is a Mariah board, it is a place where fans who share a common interest in Mariah gather as a community to discuss her career but also other things related to entertainment, and to life. Sex is as much part of our lives and interests as anything else we commonly discuss. For most of us longtime and frequently posting members, this is probably one of the only online message board we post at. So, its only natural for us to want to discuss things beyond Mariah as well. At least there could have been some sort of post or poll of members for thoughts on it. Maybe if we knew there was some sort of quota to keep a section in tact we would've used it more... who knew?

Overall, I don't really understand the need for this sudden strict and rigid moderation of the board, or the decisions being made by a few that affect many. Sure, someone has to be in charge, but there is no reason that such weighty rules and changes to the board should only be discussed by a select crew. It is a bit unsettling. But, hey, I am just making a statement of my own opinion here... that I'd rather not post in anyone's dominion.

Basically this. I always thought it was a daft idea and didn't belong on a Mariah board. Nor any artist/music board.

Hence why you don't see them.

This can still be discussed within reason in the General Discussion forums just the same as the other topics you mentioned. And as for it being out of place on a Mariah Carey board, well, it is, isn't it? It was a xxx porn forum for 18+ members, let's not sugar coat it.

Overall, I don't really understand the need for this sudden strict and rigid moderation of the board, or the decisions being made by a few that affect many.

This could be the only Mariah board you visit but it surely isn't the only forum you've been to. You speak as if this is something so unheard of in the world of forums. This is how it is.

See above.

I can't but help think some things are being objected to just for the sake of it. I don't see any objection to the removal of other Mariah-related forums.

Well, it was the most noticeable difference on login. What's the whole list of removals?

Strictly Mariah, Mariah Media, Hall of Fame/Shame (re-formed and split), The Adventures Of Mimi Tour, Artwork & Testing and Trading & Selling.

Threads from those will be moved into the appropriate forums.

Oh, please. It was hardly that "xxx". Sure there were some pics/topics that went there, but for the most part it wasn't that bad. As far as discussing similar things in the general forum goes, I don't feel comfortable doing that where anyone who registers for FOMM can view and read it. I am not about to tell y'all a funny, personal, sex-related story on a public forum like this. With the locked section, it was protected. So Carlos doesn't like the idea, apparently, neither do you, Shayne, so it gets deleted? What about all the other posters? The issue here isn't so much this forum, but the fact that it seems like its two people's opinions ruling over what is supposed to be a community.

I used to run my own message board that before I was admin, I was just a member of, but other than that no I have not been to any others. While we had a general, basic set of rules that were basically about being respectful to each other and the designated artist, we never went as far as being as specific as this new set of rules are. In the specific instance of FOMM, for many years it was virtually unmoderated and certainly never this strictly moderated... and we survived just fine. If people are being downright mean and vicious to other posters than of course such things need moderation but to say "well, this post is worthless because you didn't elaborate on your opinion" is a bit ridiculous. If such posts bother people so much then just ignore them. But, really, I don't even see where this was such an issue for this all to occur. I just feel that given the circumstances of FOMM's history of ownership and moderation that it should be more of a democratic community. There are many members of this board who have been here for years and I feel we all deserve a voice in what happens to the board and its rules. It should not be up to just a couple of people because it affects us all.

Please don't take this as disrespect, but I just feel like all of us longstanding members who have contributed to making this board what it is today should have a say in what happens to it. I am not knocking your voices, opinions, or efforts - which have largely been positive and appreciated - but I feel strongly that this is something that more of us should be apart of.

That makes sense and is a wise decision. The posts from those threads and the purposes those forums served are not now-absent from the board. As far as Strictly Mariah is concerned that forum has been pretty much dead for years except for the archival like posts of chart stats, etc. I see such posts being moved into a Mariah hall of fame as a good alternative. I think its original purpose was more logical when the board was on ezboard and the posts in the Mariah forum were in old confusing sort of layout where we replied within titles, etc.
