I hope she gets back with him and WOW at how radiant and beautiful she's looking! What did she do again-it seems like she pressed that complete glam up button like she has so many times before  in a matter of 24 hours.

I don't think there's anything special about LA Reid. He certainly wasn't able to help J.Lo... or Janet. I think what's good about their relationship is that she seems to trust him and he genuinely likes her and will throw all the coins under her project, which is good. She just needs to meet that and bring it musically. E=MC2 bombed cause of "Bye Bye," though... and cause she went off with the Abandoner..

*Sigh* That album was such a waste... could have easily gone multi-platinum had it not been for "Bye Bye" and of-course some more promotion following her marriage. I used to blame Nick for its failure but figured that if not a hit album then at least she's happy. Now I can comfortably blame him and hate on him for E=MC's fate smiley: devil

E=MC2 is still the biggest missed chance of her career to me. I would have said MIAM but while I would have preferred it to not utterly flop, I think it still could only have gone so far commercially with the material and the junction in her career it was released. E=MC2 though, coming off TEOM and the massive public interest did not deserve to become literally a three week event smiley: eyes

It didn't, but I think the actual biggest problem with the album is that it didn't have a truly classic single on it. It has a lot of nice songs/singles, but nothing on the order of "Hero," "Fantasy," or "We Belong Together" to ensure truly solid commercial heights.

In re: to her Ellen appearance, I found it interesting - though not surprising - that when Ellen was mentioning Mariah's #1s, Mariah made a point to mention "TMB" and "DFAU." Of course she'd mention the most recent two smiley: laugh smiley: eyes

I'm not here to defend Nick because we all know he's such a loser. However, the way you say it seems Mariah was forced to marry him and that Nick is the responsible for the disaster that was E=MC2. Mariah was the number 1 responsible. the career was hers not his.

True. Utterly true. I don't even think TMB would even have done as well as it did without the post-TEOM hype. I realistically couldn't see any massive smash hit singles off E=MC2 or even enduring tracks but I do think she was sitting on a few steady Top 10's had the campaign been better managed and more commitment shown. As Mario said, I could have seen IBLYLT and Migrate both being respectable pop hits had it all been handled better.

I actually think TMB is a perfect pop song. Very compact. Instantly catchy hooks that stay with you after first listen. I'm not overly fond of the lyrics in the verses nor is it a vocal masterclass but it's about as catchy as pop songs come. I liked it because it was also right in the middle of being pop and R&B. I like when she straddles the fence and blurs the lines in that manner. To launch an album it is a great choice if there is a monster smash also coming behind it. I think IBLYLT was a big miss on their part. They were so hell bent on 'ballads sell Mariah albums' that they didn't think about the current musical climate.

ByeBye was too somber to follow TMB which brought a very light and fun element especially with the video. IBLULT was a great miss in my opinion, may not be the best mariah song ever, but it was a feel good uptempo. by the time it was chosen for a single, the public was already like, wtf to her marriage and all momentum and promo for the album pretty much fizzled.

Touch My Body also has one of Mariah's best videos. Great lead single launch IMO.

^ Agreed with both posts above.

While "Bye Bye" was an odd choice for a second single, I think had Mariah released "I'll Be Loving You Long Time" sooner, it might have stood a better chance, and the project could've gained a little more momentum. Wasn't Mariah pretty much absent throughout most of June 2008? "Bye Bye" was long dead by then. The absence was almost as big as mistake as releasing "Bye Bye."

I'm not saying "TMB" isn't a well-crafted song, but it's not the kind of song that grabs attention and makes people listen. It's too laid-back for that. The video did help, though.

TMB had the repeat-play factor too. The chorus was so catchy. Plus it had the "catch phrase" about Youtube.

I remember spinning the sh*t out of that song when it came out. To the point my ex stormed through and was like ENOUGH.
