I don't think there's anything special about LA Reid. He certainly wasn't able to help J.Lo... or Janet.
I think what's good about their relationship is that she seems to trust him and he genuinely likes her and will throw all the coins under her project, which is good. She just needs to meet that and bring it musically. E=MC2 bombed cause of "Bye Bye," though... and cause she went off with the Abandoner..
*Sigh* That album was such a waste... could have easily gone multi-platinum had it not been for "Bye Bye" and of-course some more promotion following her marriage.
E=MC2 is still the biggest missed chance of her career to me. I would have said MIAM but while I would have preferred it to not utterly flop, I think it still could only have gone so far commercially with the material and the junction in her career it was released. E=MC2 though, coming off TEOM and the massive public interest did not deserve to become literally a three week event
It didn't, but I think the actual biggest problem with the album is that it didn't have a truly classic single on it. It has a lot of nice songs/singles, but nothing on the order of "Hero," "Fantasy," or "We Belong Together" to ensure truly solid commercial heights.
In re: to her Ellen appearance, I found it interesting - though not surprising - that when Ellen was mentioning Mariah's #1s, Mariah made a point to mention "TMB" and "DFAU." Of course she'd mention the most recent two
