I thought I'd start this one up and rather than a million categories most will skim over (tumbleweed through Best Male for example), have kept it simple in the hopes of more passionate and focused contributions. So no bullsh!t with genres or genders, we keep it mean and keen. The categories you submit your winner on are....

ALBUM OF THE YEAR

SINGLE OF THE YEAR

ARTIST OF THE YEAR

SONG/NON-SINGLE OF THE YEAR

MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

MUSIC MOMENT OF THE YEAR

Note - Song/Non-Single of the year obviously means a track on any 2014 album that did not get a single release. Newcomer Of The Year can refer to an artist you personally discovered this year even if they didn't exactly break within 2014, so for example, you just got into Carrie Underwood this year with her Greatest Hits collection.

ALBUM OF THE YEAR - 1989 by Taylor Swift.

A proper, full on pop opus of uptempo fun that showed the champs of the genre like Katy, Gaga, Kylie, etc just how mediocre their own efforts were. While not as good as Speak Now, this is Taylor and her fans have utter fun. Strong hooks, great production, insanely catchy material. A proper pop album that delivered on the hype.

SINGLE OF THE YEAR - 'Problem' by Arianna Grande.

The perfect formula of charm and character in a hit pop song - those slamming saxaphones, the sassy whispers, a killer rap from Iggy (with a welcome Jay nod) and powerhouse vocals from Arianna herself. The kind of dynamic pop/R&B hit Mariah would have rolled out in the 90's that are sorely missed.

ARTIST OF THE YEAR - Taylor Swift.

My full conversion began in 2012 and this year its only grown. Another solid album, albeit not her best, but a progression in her songwriting (a needed break from the boy bashing/heartbreak), refreshed sound, a jaw dropping and thrilling campaign, and unstoppable hike to becoming the worlds biggest pop star. Its been wonderful to see more and more people turn onto her and I think the only way is up from here as well.

SONG/NON-SINGLE OF THE YEAR - 'Out Of The Woods' by Taylor Swift.

The song that restored my faith in the 1989 project after the awful 'Shake It Off'. An epic chorus (and obviously very simple chorus) of huge sweeping, production that is charged and powerful, it sweeps me up. I like the vague, almost mystery aspect of the lyrics that somehow still manage to be so relatable and emotive.

MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR - 'Guy' by Lady Gaga.

For all her misfires with ArtPop (we'd be here forever on that), 'Guy' was Gaga back on proper form in the music video department with this epic, movie style feature. Any video that can feature the RHOBH as a heavenly choir, on their harps to 'Venus' deserves all the praise it can get and I felt the symbolism and message was back to being very clear and concise.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR - Arianna Grande.

While she has more to do to before she fully earns the crown as a proper contender, 2014 was a good start. A strong breakthrough to the international market, a trio of strong singles, the killer smash of 'Problem', her impressive vocals and a passable album made her a new artist who actually had my attention. For 2015, she needs to work on the personality in her videos. This fembot routine does not make one a popstar.

MUSIC MOMENT OF THE YEAR - Me. I Am Mariah finally getting released.

After an agonising and messy campaign that will surely go down as one of the most amateur in recent years, we finally got that album in our hands. Putting all the campaign drama aside, it was a solid album that showed Mariah still has it with a return to solid songwriting and a really varied record that still felt unified and complimented the various styles. I still don't think its quite a classic (nor are any of the tracks on it) but after the wait, it was a relief to get a good final product.

ALBUM OF THE YEAR - Beyonce by Beyonce - I know this album got released 15 days before 2014, but for me this feels like a 2014 release.  It dominated my year with nearly 300 plays.  The production, vocals, etc are complete perfection.

SINGLE OF THE YEAR - Problem by Ariana Grande - This song is one of those tracks that I wish Mariah had recorded.  Carlos pretty much summed it up perfectly.  Very close four way tie with Carrie's Something In The Water, Anastacia's Stupid Little Things, and Tim McGraw's Meanwhile Back At Mama's.

ARTIST OF THE YEAR - Beyonce - She released a killer album with killer singles and videos.

SONG/NON-SINGLE OF THE YEAR - Evolution by Anastacia - This would have been the perfect follow-up to SLT.  This song is just amazing.

MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR - Anaconda by Nicki Minaj - This video has everything I missed about music videos.... being completely over the top.  It's probably my favorite video since Mariah's Touch My Body.  Just totally ridiculous and great at the same time.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR - Arianna Grande - Even though she is not a technical newcomer, she really took 2014 by storm.  Its going to be interesting to see where her career goes from here.  She has the chance to be a global superstar, but will her diva attitude and lack of artistry stop her?

MUSIC MOMENT OF THE YEAR - Carrie releasing Something In The Water in a country radio climate where faith songs are nonexistent and very risky.  She took a huge chance and it played off in epic ways by showing her artistry and faith in one of the best songs of her career.

COMEBACK MOMENT OF THE YEAR - Had to add this to give Toni props for a wonderful album with Babyface.  Hopefully it has restored her to release a solo album in the future.

MY MOST PLAYED SONGS:

1.  Something in the Water - Carrie Underwood
2.  Meanwhile Back At Mama's - Tim McGraw feat. Faith Hill
3.  Problem - Ariana Grande feat. Iggy
4.  Stupid Little Things - Anastacia
5.  XO - Beyonce
6.  Not A Bad Thing - Justin Timberlake
7.  You and Me - You&Me
8.   Break Free - Ariana Grande
9.  Pretty Hurts - Beyonce
10.  Bartender - Lady Antebellum
11.  First Love - Jennifer Lopez
12.  Incredible - Celine Dion
13.  It's On Again - Alicia Keys feat. Kendrick Lamar
14.  Love Never Felt So Good - Michael Jackson & Justin Timberlake
15.  Partition - Beyonce
16.  Good Kisser - Usher
17.  Somethin' Bad - Miranda Lambert & Carrie Underwood
18.  Shake It Off - Taylor Swift
19.  Roller Coaster - Toni Braxton & Babyface
20.  Drunk In Love - Beyonce & Jay-Z

My favorite album of the year was probably Lykke Li's "I Never Learn". At nine tracks and 32 minutes it's VERY tight and there really isn't a bad song on the set. "No Rest For The Wicked", "Gunshot", "Silver Line", "Just Like A Dream", the title track and "Love Me Like I'm Not Made Of Stone" are my big faves.

ALBUM OF THE YEAR:  "Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse" - Like most people who actually took the time to really listen to this album, I was floored.  I'm really proud of lambs this go around because while it tanked harder than ever and the promotion/singles picked were laughable, everyone has really repped for it.  Production wise, it's one of her best.  Lyrically, it's a big step up from previous albums.  Vocally, she kills almost every song.  It's just amazing.

Runner Up:  "Crush" by 2NE1 - These girls have come such a long way and really GREW up with this album.  I still play it to this day.  It landed on so many Top 10 lists in America, which is crazy because K-Pop has still not made a mark here.

SINGLE OF THE YEAR:  "Mr. Mr." by Girls' Generation - My FOMM'ers may not have an appreciate for Asian music the way I do, but GG knocked it out of the park with this one.  With it going from electro-pop in the verses and to then going into a 80's inspired chorus, I was hooked!  It's a shame people can't get passed the language barrier.

ARTIST OF THE YEAR  Beyonce - Her album came out in 2013, but between her album being played well into 2014, hits like "Drunk In Love," "Partition," "Flawless," and now "7/11," she ruled for me.

SONG/NON-SINGLE OF THE YEAR:  "Faded" by Mariah Carey - This song has become one of my favorite Mariah songs ever.  It's so emotive and the ending leaves me breathless each time.  You can tell she felt what she was singing.  I wish it had been released.

MUSIC VIDEO OF THE YEAR:  "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea - While I'm not team Iggy at all, this video takes it back to "Clueless" and I found myself watching the video over and over again.  It was fun and really marked the Summer.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR:  Ariana Grande is not a newcomer, but she solidified her hit making status this past year.  As Carlos said, while her album sales and personality could use a boost, her singles were big hits and her albums are promising.

MUSIC MOMENT OF THE YEAR:  The Release of Mimi:  When we got to hear Mariah's album for the first time on iTunes; I was in San Diego for a conference and highly jet lagged and with a sinus infection... STILL stayed up to listen!

I've taken out a MV of the year when I never watch them.

ALBUM OF THE YEAR - Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence - The album was a grower for me, but now it's one of those rare albums where I love almost every song. I like that she tells stories with her songs, they're not all self-absorbed or generic. The production is incredible.

SINGLE OF THE YEAR - Hozier - Take Me To Church - Beautifully sung, great melody and I love the dark edge it has. A song that actually says something without coming across cheesy and corny. His album is great too.

ARTIST OF THE YEAR - Banks - see description in Newcomer of the Year.

SONG/NON-SINGLE OF THE YEAR - Mariah - Dedicated - can't completely snub MC I think MIAM is a great album but there were a lot of ones which I ended up liking more this year. This song however is complete perfection, has such a good vibe and totally catchy. Really is perfect Mariah without trying to recreate an old song.

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR - Banks - If you haven't checked her out you really should. Her album is a very close second for me. In particular songs like 'Change', 'Drowning' and 'Brain' are great. She also did a brilliant cover of Lauryn Hill's Ex-Factor live. Very dark and brooding, which I guess is a theme for 2014 for me I noticed her songs trickling out and loved all of them. Then the album came and didn't disappoint.

MUSIC MOMENT OF THE YEAR - Definitely Mariah's album came out. I remember it came out not long before I was in hospital for a week ill. The downside is some of the songs I actually associate now with feeling like death and lying in a cramped hospital ward in the height of summer.
