I finally managed a full listen, I got distracted by Janet. Overall I quite like it. I can listen to it all and I enjoy 90% of it, whereas I couldn't cope with all the tacky 'club bangers' on 'Love and War'. I disagree about the comment another person made in regard to 'unbearable upper register', I think the vocals are pretty great. It's a good, solid R&B album. I think I prefer it overall to the last album, although it is all a bit 'same-y' on the first listen. The only song I dislike is the third track 'Simple Things', it's the spoken part that really kills it.

^I agree- a really solid R&B album. It actually reminds me of a Toni album in parts, it has that more mature feel. It doesn't have the standout singles of her first album, but it's much more consistent. Of the 16 tracks (Deluxe) I saved 12 tracks.

Standouts:

Broken Record- GORGEOUS! Love those background vocals. This should have been the lead single imo. Best song on the album.

Never- pretty ballad, very Toni.

If I Don't Have You- an Alicia Keys song, with a good vocalist.

Raise the Bar- nice, stripped slow jam, again very Toni.

Free Fallin'- nice ballad, a bit more pop

Coming Home- my 2nd favorite, way too good to be relegated to the Deluxe. Love the 90s vibe and the Brandy-esque background vocals. Why hasn't Mariah worked with The Underdogs?!

Tamar danced to "King" last night on DWTS. Vince was playing the piano, it was a great moment for her. She got a 27 score

The album is back to #5 on iTunes, "King" shot up to #166. I love this song

"Must Be Good to You" is like her Emotions era moment to me, with some of the lyrics of Beyoncé's "Blow"

I'm in love with "Circles" I hope it's the next single. "I Love You" is totally a lamb moment.

I don't like the drum they used. If it had a live drum it would slay!

Calling All Lovers sold 38,000 copies first week

I hope she picks up with promotion. Maybe her being on The Real means she can't do other daytime shows like GMA or Today though.

Oh, right. But that first album is kind of regarded as those first few 'I don't know her' albums Janet released smiley: laugh

It's a real shame this album tanked, it's a really great album. Broken Record, Never, Circles, Raise the Bar, Coming Home.. just to name a few awesome tracks!
