I kind of want to agree. Memoirs is really one of my favorite Mariah albums and Ive been a hardcore fan since Honey dropped (casual fan prior). I feel like these two albums cant be compared they are too different lyrically and musically. As Mariah said if you had heard the album as a whole a body of work, you'd think otherwise. If #B and YM were fresh to the ears upon listen. The album would be all the rage.

TBH though I like the overall feel of MOAIA, it felt like she was free styling on songs like Candy Bling. Like she were singing from a diary and taking you on a personal journey. I could slip it in and get lost for hours. One of my top 3 MC albums for sure.

Don't get me wrong I love this album but personally I thought Memoirs was a better album. Songs like Its A Wrap, Obsessed, Hate U, Betcha Gona Know are among my favorite Mariah songs and better than anything on this album IMO.

I love Memoirs and I think the songs you name are among Mariah's best songs along with Standing O, Angels Cry and Up Out My Face. Although Memoirs has seven strong songs IMO, I do think the new album is stronger overall. But maybe you'll have to ask this question again in a few years time when both albums are "old". It's always hard to compare an older album with a fresh new one.

What does annoy me though, is how Memoirs gets trashed in most reviews when they compare it to the new album. Both albums are great in their own right.

Memoirs is an album who reflects way more of the dream than mariah. And that's my problem. Don't get me wrong about him. I have all his cds and that's why I can't listen to memoirs without seeing how that album fits perfectly to his trilogy but this time from the woman's point of view. There is absolutely nothing I can see related to butterfly on memoirs and the fact that she sold the album like it was based on it made me dislike a lot more than I had to.

This is something I agree with - I feel you hear nothing lyrically that is really Mariah with Memoirs. You walk away from the album learning nothing about her, none of the songs feel like they have come from her or have a message from her. They come from somewhere I'm sure but with this album, I didn't feel they were really coming from Mariah. The whole thing felt very distant. Its her first album since 1995 (barring Glitter) that I felt had no statement in it at all and walked away having no clue where Mariah was at as a person.

Am I the only one that thinks MOAIA was a better album?

MOAIA sounds like a very nice B-Side of MIAM. Kudos to HATE U, Betcha Gonna Know and Candy Bling. And Obsessed, of course.
