To the left with that nonsense. If her noms were bought, why didn't Vince also buy her one Grammy? I bet you also think Unapologetic is a Urban album

You've been typing stupid sh*t just for the sake of it lately. You used to be reasonable, I guess the Pop gerls took the best of you, pitiful.

So did Kendrick.

If you honestly believe she sold that many albums and went #1 on itunes first by herself then you are delusional. Anyways she doesn't deserve any. lol
Rihanna is not r&b but I would categorize it as Urban sounding pop.
I thought you were reasonable as well but then I saee your deluded Beyonce posts and this slightly racist ghetto lingo you like to use and came to my senses. smiley: nerdsmiley: laugh

Nobody is discussing her sales and you are delusional if you think I am racist. Goodbye.

Grammys 2014

Congrats to Kathy on the comedy album win! She had been nominated 5x before.

And Steve Martin won a grammy for the american roots song category (wtf is that?). He now ties Mariah with 5 career grammys. Smdh

Yeah, but that is beside the point; people are acting like Daft Punk winning was some horrible thing. From an objective standpoint it had critical and commercial success. It's not a random winner. I would have loved a Lamar win in Rap Album, New Artist, and AOTY, but I can't argue against Daft Punk winning AOTY the way I can argue against Macklemore winning Rap Album. Their sweep in Rap is terrible.

I can't speak to her general Grammy history, but I hate that she won this year because of who she beat - Tig Notaro. If you've seen Notaro's live special that she was nominated for, you know how moving, funny, and original it is.

Oh I get it now, you threw out that racist comment just because I said you used to be more reasonable?

Just so you know, calling someone racist is a much worse accusation.

It's always interesting to me to see who benefits most from the Grammys. The iTunes singles chart features:
1. "Dark Horse" - Katy Perry (this was already #1, though)
2. "Happy" - Pharrell Williams (he didn't even perform this!)
3. "All of Me"- John Legend (interesting he jumped into the top 3)
4. "Royals" - Lorde
5. "Get Lucky" - Daft Punk
6. "Invisible" - Hunter Hayes (released right after Grammys)
9. "Brave" - Sara Bareilles

Kacey Musgraves jumped into the top 20 with "Follow Your Arrow," and the Imagine Dragons/Kendrick Lamar "Radioactive" is #19.

I really wished that Mariah had shown up for the Carole King tribute at MusicCares. She used to talk about being a fan and an inspiration. Missing out on something like this makes me think she wasn't in the first place. It was all record company politics. They wanted Mariah to cover A Natural Woman, Mariah didn't want to, so just bring in the next best thing. The person who wrote it and further the "singer-songwriter" image.

Was Katy nominated for a lot? She didn't win any...I feel like this happened in the Teenage Dream era. Is she the new Grammy anti-darling?

I am sure Mariah was inspired by her, even if it was just on the level of King having written some of the Aretha songs Mariah loved. But Mariah was much more of a music junkie when she was younger, so I am sure she also liked at least some of Carole's own work. I don't think King having been one of Mariah's influences means she has to pay tribute all of the time. Mariah's bigger inspirations were Stevie, Aretha, Patti, etc. and she continues to show them love.

Having said that, I have wondered why Mariah doesn't avail herself more to the Grammys. I don't think she's ever presented, nor has she ever performed as part of a tribute or done anything like that. She obviously doesn't have to, but it's the kind of thing other artists notice and that makes her a bigger part of the music community in general. The last few years it seems the awards shows she makes an effort toward are the BET/Soul Train/etc. type awards.

Katy was nominated for Song and Pop Solo for "Roar," so she went 0-2. I think she's now 0-11. Honestly, though, I can't think of any time where she should have won. She lost her Pop Female/Solo awards to Adele 3 times, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and now Lorde. Even if someone thinks the actual winner was undeserving, I doubt anyone thinks Perry is who should have won. "Roar" in no way deserved Song of the Year this past year (by the way, how in the hell did it take 5 people to come up with rhyming "zero" and "hero" smiley: sick). She lost Album to Arcade Fire and Record (for "Firework") to Adele for "Rolling In The Deep."

To get into something positive, I want to highlight Vampire Weekend's win in Alternative Music Album. I love that album and am glad they are now Grammy winners. In general I love that category; some of my favorite albums of all-time have won there:

MTV Unplugged - Nirvana
Odelay - Beck
Ok Computer - Radiohead
Parachutes - Coldplay
Get Behind Me Satan - The White Stripes
Brothers - The Black Keys
Modern Vampires of the City - Vampire Weekend

I just wish Fiona Apple would have gotten a win at some point.

I don't think Paul McCartney should have won anything last night. Looking back at the show Muse should have won. I feel like there is a Beatles tribute every year. lol
