There is only one "care" that I know of, and it's about 1 minute into the song. Diana holds it for about 2 seconds, and Mariah holds it for about 3 seconds. I guess that 1 second means Mariah oversings the song smiley: laugh Luther actually uses melisma on that "care" instead of holding the note like Mariah does, and people usually call the use of melisma "oversinging" as opposed to holding out a note.

Anyway, when Mariah and Luther are belting "no one can deny" and "this love I have inside" and then "give it all to you" I get chills smiley: tongue

^ Well, there isn't another "care" in the song

For the most part Mariah sticks to the melody, or at least the way Diana sang her part. Yet, somehow Diana's vocal is natural and Mariah oversings?

Oh get a f*cking life! I don't know why after weeks you are dredging up this topic again as if I'm going to change my opinion on it. I stated how I felt and it's not going to change no matter if you or 99.9% of the fans disagree or even if you write a dissertation or blog about it, which I wouldn't be surprised if you already did. I'm sure you have enough time on your hands. I've been over it and through with entertaining your pressed ass on this subject. Now laugh at that!

I've been obsessed with "EL" the last few days On that note, does anyone else think Luther sings "I shall" instead of "I'm sure" in the section after the bridge? The line is supposed to be "And love/I'll be that fool for you/I'm sure you know I don't mind."

Another thing I love is Mariah's opening "My first love..." It somehow seems really delicate, which is appropriate since the female in the song is the more innocent one (notice the male just sings "My love" and the female sings "My first love," so he's likely more experienced).

I agree. DYTOM is a truly fantastic record and it really doesn't get enough love. I would put it near the top of the list of songs she recorded the first half of the 90's.

Yaass @ the "DYTOM" love. Always loved how it was kind of dark and imo it's her most emotive vocal recorded that era.

DYTOM has really grown on me over the last few years, I used to think it was easily the weakest of the Slipping Away / DYTOM / Everything Fades Away trifecta. It has a very haunting quality to it.

Yes, it has a really dark/haunting/sexy kind of vibe and I love it.

Yeah, there is a slightly dark quality to it, isn't there? The lyrics almost read like an obsession that she has since their "love can never be".  Just in the pattern with the repeated lines.  It's kind of a risque lyric for her at that time too -- wondering if she's being fantasized about while the object of affection is being intimate with someone else. That's pretty kinky for Music Box MC.

Music Box 20th anniversary

I love DYTOM. I was obsessed with it a couple years back, like on repeat obsessed. It was a great few days.

'Do You Think of Me' is stunning. Listen to it and Nippy's 'Dancing on the Smooth Edge' right after, it's a total eargasm.
