^The lies you tell. How is Mariah & Luther's EL more 'successful' and 'enduring' than the original?

Yeah I don't agree that Mariah & Luther's is more enduring. It's the far superior version, but the Diana & Lionel version is probably the most remembered.

I don't think I've ever listened to the original in full. I know Diana Ross is some kind of legend and her voice is, apparently, decent but I've never been able to consider her a "great voice" after watching the Diva's Live 2000 performance... I realise she was 60 or so and had probably been splashing in a bath full of champagne before coming out on stage. I've heard some of her other songs like Upside Down, and I'm Coming Out etc and she sounds alright but I'd rather listen to Aretha sing anything NOW than listen to Diana Ross try to sing a ballad.

No, Diana Ross could never sing. She sounds like a white girl. She lucked out that she got some great singles written for her, but she was more of a J.Lo type artist, her success didn't really have anything to do with her.

Diana's vocals on "Missing You," "Home" and "One More Chance" are sh#t! J.Ho could never.

I've never heard them but I couldn't resist. I figured someone would do this...

Diana certainly wasn't a great vocalist but comparing her and putting her on the level of a Jlo is ludicrous. Diana, like her or not, is a legend...Jlo will never be one or come even close to it.

Is it really? Especially internationally, I'd say Mariah & Luther's version is more remembered. Then again, I may be a bit biased cos I'd never heard the original until fairly recently, whereas I've always known of M & L's version (even before I became a full-blown lamb).

Yah everyone knows the original for sure.

I do think Mariah's version of Without You and I'll Be There are probably the most well remembered versions at this point though.

'Missing You' has Diana Ross' best vocal hands down.

Just because Diana is a legend doesn't mean she has a great voice. I would put her voice in the same category as Janet's except Janet has a pretty tone while Diana sounds more like a hag.

It's annoying when people say "My station always plays..." or "I always hear..." Well, one person's experience doesn't make something true in a general sense.

A few years ago when we used to have full Mediabase info, Mariah and Luther's "Endless Love" got more recurrent play than the original. That is evidence of it enduring more. I would still say the original is more known, but I don't have actual proof of that.

I honestly think it depends on which era you grew up in. In 1994 you couldn't escape their version from the radio! And lets face it.... Old peeps be dying off... so us young folk will remember this version.... haha.

I was gonna say the same. I hear Mariah & Luther's version much more often and I think that it is popular in its own right. I'm always surprised by how often weddings play Endless Love and it's Mariah/Luther's version

Once I thought that Diana Ross was not a great vocalist and her voice was somewhat annoying.
But hearing after 'Home', I had to give credit for her talent.
Her version of the song was more impressive than Whitney Houston or Regine Velasquez.

^^ Totally agree, that's the big problem with the album overall -- just that sense of blandness to it.
That's why it would have been nice if "Everything Fades Away" and "Do You Think Of Me" had been on all versions. "EFA" isn't as cheesy as a lot of the other ballads, and "DYTOM" is obviously sexier - and has a different sound and tempo - than anything else on the album.
