Yeah, I think it's a combination of factors. Some people who leave FOMM surely are people who are really only interested in coming around when she's a steady, huge commercial force and we're getting further from those years. I gotta think some of the people who came here way back when were probably in their late teens or early 20s in the mid 1990s and they've probably had children and such and become too busy for all this. Plus everything everybody else already said, they are all contributing factors.

I'd be curious to know of the top 100 posters in this site how many of us have children actually compared to the rest of the members lol. I bet that's a bigger factor for FOMM drop off than one would think.

Seeing as how I'll probably never have children and am eternally juvenile, I'm sure I'll be around forever haha.

I'm not over Mariah. She has been too large of a force in my life for me to truly find myself over her. I am sort of over her lack of ambition lately. I feel like, while yes she's earned the right to go about her career in any way she chooses, she's stuck in a rut and comfortable with that. This is the woman who pioneered the merging of hip hop and pop. She seems way too comfortable giving the same boring and half-assed performances over and again, and rehashing the same sound (#B being an exception). I want to see her take some risks musically. Performance wise, I would love for her to either go with more grandiose, "Diva" and interesting, or more raw and stripped down..for example her on a stool with a guitar player. And LIVE vocals. Mariah's voice has been in better shape lately, there's no need to constantly try to match the album vocals. I want authenticity from her, not paranoia about how she looks and faked vocals. I want her to connect in her performances...to the music and to the audience (As in her recent Looking In performance).

^^ yeah I agree with most of that too and I think overall those are the real issues for me as a fan with her more at this point than anything. I wish she really set out to push her sound and material in a more complex and mature direction just as a general principle.

I'll NEVER be over her. I'm annoyed by her very much though, and slightly disappointed. But like Kevo said, as soon as the album drops (Lawd knows when) all of this will be forgotten.

Are you over Mariah?

While people are entitled to be annoyed, I think most are overdramatic. Look at her contemporaries; Janet hasn't released a great album since 1997 and is completely uninspired. Whitney damaged her voice beyond repair and took eight years to release a horrible album. Madonna takes three years to make an album and when it finally comes it's always even worse than its predecessor.

Really, Mariah's last release was three years ago and it was loved by the fans. It's not like she's Lauryn Hill.

^Completely not the point. The point is that she's been TEASING an album for years now, dropping singles, making promises, setting expectations, and then keeps failing time after time.

Are you saying I should be banned?

not at all. i was saying how the overall perception of mariah has changed on the board. shes no longer this can-do-no-wrong god-like person on this forum, whereas in the teom era, a slight criticism of her wouldve warranted a ban.

If anyone is looking at this forum, and even POSTING.... then obviously they aren't over her! smiley: laugh I am in no way over her, but I see where some of y'all are comin' from. I'm not as over obsessive as I one was but... smiley: alien I am over waiting for this album. I'll enjoy it when it's finally released.... sometime next year.... smiley: tired

The fairweather stans as I call them. She has so many of them. Those who stan for sales and only show up praising the ground she walks on while she's hot but when she's not, they pick at her every move proclaiming how done she is until she yet again shows signs of success and their attitude changes. Most forums have plenty of those type fans and they all appeared like locusts when #Beautiful started smashing getting 5 million AI updates.

I definitely think anyone who is checking for news, checking her forums aren't remotely over her. There is a huge difference in being frustrated and annoyed and being completely done with her. I know a few people who were once massive stans and they have sold everything they own by Mariah, one person even gave his collection away for free, stopped posting on the Mariah forum they were a regular at and just completely moved on and that's what "being over" her really is IMO.

I'm very curious to see how things go moving forward because I think at some point (besides a lead single maybe) she's going to have to pitch her music squarely at an older audience if she wants to make decent sales. My question is -- what will that audience want? I think we're somewhat representative of the wider MC fan base, but I'm not sure to what extent. Are fans going to want the same things out of her in 10 years that they want now? I just wonder if her music will continue to evolve after mainstream success becomes less of a priority or if her albums will tend to more or less follow a pattern -- knowing that a lot of her fan base wants nostalgia and wants her to basically hit all her marks. On the one hand, less pressure to be successful would give her freedom to experiment , but less chance for success may force her to "pay the bills" by delivering what her core expects from her.

I just hope she sticks more towards the former.

Mario started this thread because we were chatting on Facebook, so this is my fault. I said I was over Mariah. Now anyone who knows urban slang, I didn't mean that I literally am OVER Mariah as an artist. I was merely stating that Mariah's at a point in her career (as David was pointing out), where veteran acts don't release frequently and so I'm over waiting for Mariah to compete with the youngins'. It's just not happening.

One thing I AM over though is the fact that EVERY Mariah album since TEOM has been pushed back because it wasn't 'ready.' As much as we can blame the label for pushing her, after a certain amount of time, you have to take responsibility for your own actions and this seems to be a pattern. You don't rush art, so Mariah should never agree to a date until an album is done and the singles are picked. It seems like every era is like pulling teeth and not enjoyable for the stans, so I'm over waiting. I'm over this 'approach' to releasing albums.

But as an artist and even as a person, I (and probably most of us) will never be over Mariah. She is simply better than everyone else and I will be first in line for that album when it comes out.
