Eminem and One Direction Set for Big Debuts on Hot 100, Digital Songs Charts
By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles | November 01, 2013

Eminem and One Direction are heading for big debuts on the Digital Songs chart next week.

Eminem's latest single, "The Monster," featuring Rihanna, is on course for a No. 1 debut on the Digital Songs chart next week. Industry sources suggest the tune could sell upwards of 300,000 downloads in the week ending Sunday, Nov. 3.

The new Digital Songs chart -- along with the sales of Eminem and One Direction new singles -- will be revealed on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

"The Monster" is the fourth track released from Eminem's upcoming "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" album, which is due out next Tuesday, Nov. 5. "The Monster" follows the set's earlier releases: "Berzerk," "Survival" and "Rap God," all of which bowed in the top 10 on the Digital Songs chart in their respective release weeks. Of the three earlier songs, "Berzerk" posted the largest debut week, as it bowed with 362,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It has sold 1.3 million to date.

"The Monster" also reunites Eminem with Rihanna, who assisted him with his No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 smash, "Love the Way You Lie." That 2010 track, which was the second single from his "Recovery" album, spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100. It is his largest-selling download ever in the U.S., with 6 million sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

As for the airplay/sales/streaming hybrid Hot 100 chart, "Monster" appears headed for a top 10 debut, thanks to its sales numbers and early airplay; it's currently approaching the Radio Songs chart's top 40 with 10 million in first-week audience, according to Nielsen BDS.

Meanwhile, One Direction is set for the second-largest debut on Digital Songs with its new single, "Story Of My Life." Sources suggest it might sell around 250,000 to 270,000. It's the latest single from the vocal group's new album, "Midnight Memories," which will be released on Nov. 25.

One Direction last charted on the Digital Songs chart with "Best Song Ever," which was from the group's movie "This Is Us." The single debuted at No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart dated Aug. 10, selling 322,000 downloads. The track will also be featured on the upcoming "Midnight Memories" album.

One Direction's last album, "Take Me Home," was released in November of 2012 and was led by its first single, "Live While We're Young." That single debuted at No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart, selling 341,000 in its first week.

One Direction's song could also start in the Hot 100's top 10 based on sales alone. (Its airplay so far places it among the week's 250 most-played songs). Streaming for Eminem and One Direction's songs have also yet to be determined.

Highlights of next week's Hot 100, along with Digital Songs, will also post next Wednesday (Nov. 6).

From MTV.COM:

Eminem did return later in the show, though, to deliver MMLP2's anthemic "Survival," which was originally released as part of the soundtrack to the forthcoming video game "Call of Duty: Ghosts." Joined this time by singer Liz Rodrigues of the New Royales, Slim Shady dove into the bombastic lyrics of the hard-hitting track.

Carrying over the combat theme of the multiplayer video game, the Shady Records CEO wore a snow-camouflage jacket and used a camo net as a backdrop to his band, which played the DJ Khalil-produced electric guitar riffs like they wanted to incite a mosh pit onstage. Not wanting to feel left out, Eminem proceeded to play air guitar to close out his set.
That just says it all to me really -- the guy is dropping tracks for video game soundtracks.  He's got his fans and all, but he's proven himself over and over to be a HUGE sell out, just getting his money wherever he can now.

I don't get the hype of him anymore.... I really thought people would move on to Macklemore, dude seems as talented if not more and isn't an a-hole!
I know the local radio stations eat up whatever eminem release. I've already heard Monster over a dozen times this past weekend.

Eminem's act got tired for me a long time ago, but Macklemore hasn't shown nearly the same ability in terms of word play or flow to me that Eminem at his peak (or even 80% of his peak) has. Even on this new CD, the act is tired, but his ability to match some of the current rappers at their own game is impressive.

Eminem Set for Year's Second-Largest Sales Week, Seventh No. 1 Album on Billboard 200

Eminem is set to rock the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart next week. The Detroit rapper’s latest album, "The Marshall Mathers LP 2," is on course to earn the second-largest sales week of the year and debut at No. 1.

Released Tuesday (Nov. 5), industry sources forecast the new album to sell between 700,000 and 750,000 copies by the end of the tracking week on Nov. 10. That should mark the second-biggest sales week of the year for an album, surpassed only by the debut of Justin Timberlake's "The 20/20 Experience," which opened with 968,000 in March, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The year's second-biggest week is currently owned by Drake's "Nothing Was the Same," which entered at No. 1 with 658,000.

The expected No. 1 arrival of "The Marshall Mathers LP 2,” and official sales number, will be announced on Nov. 13. The set will mark Emimem's seventh consecutive No. 1 album. Of all his releases, only one -- his "The Slim Shady LP" debut -- missed the top slot. It debuted and peaked at No. 2 in 1999.

While "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" has only been on sale less than a day, sources can project its first week based on a number of indicators. They include orders from retailers and early sales at digital retail, first-week performance of comparable albums, media exposure, radio and YouTube trends for the album's singles, and so on. Of course, a forecast is just that. So, Eminem's official sales figure, as compiled by SoundScan, could ultimately end up different from early estimates.

Eminem's last album, 2010's "Recovery," blasted in at No. 1 with 741,000. And his set before that, 2009's "Relapse," entered atop the list with 608,000.

Since 2008, only three hip-hop albums have sold more than 700,000 in a week: Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter III" in 2008 (1.01 million its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan), Eminem's "Recovery" and Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" in 2011 (964,000 in its debut).

Eminem is currently tied with Kanye West and Nas for the second-most No. 1 albums among hip-hop acts (they each have six leaders). A new No. 1 would give Eminem the second-place distinction all to himself. Among all hip-hop acts, only Jay Z, with 13 No. 1s, has more. (The all-time champs, among all artists, by the way, are the Beatles, with 19 No. 1s.)

I'm perplexed at his consistent popularity with the stans who think he's like God and the greatest rapper of all time.

Last year he reached over 60 million "likes" on Facebook, which is the most ever, beating out Katy Perry and Rihanna. So he continues to be popular and people continue to buy his music no matter how good or mediocre the material . I'm not sure what's so likeable about him.

the funny part is that for the most part, only gay males dislike him, but that's understandable. his core fan base is not gay males tho. so all
the gay males in here b!tching about him, just know, u are not his fan base and yall are not the ones that made him who he is. so that's why he
is still popular. straight white males love him and will probably continue to support him. And if I'm not mistaken, white males make up the largest portion
of album buyers in America. It's funny yall say things like he is a one trick pony yet u stan for Mariah who has been singing about the same things
for over 2 decades. he doesnt have to change what he raps about to stay popular, clearly. I dont think any artist has to.

Me personally, a black female, I do not really care for his music but I recognize and respect his one-of-a-kind flow and his word play. I think
The Monster is a good track, his best single since Mockingbird.

I'm going to try and pretend you just didn't sit there and type those ignorant comments, especially for someone who is opinionated about everything she doesn't agree with someone says on here.
