Me and a friend of mine who is a ruthless HUGE Whitney fan set ourseves a challenege last week. We wanted to ensure our divas shined and maybe intoduce the other to tracks that the other may not of heard before. Unreleased or limited release album tracks. We gave ourselves 80 mins to ensure we put together a collection (of what we think) is our divas best work. This would then maybe help each of us, learn to love the other persons divas body of work. Does that make sense? Anyway this is the 80 min collection I came up with see what you think..... and let me know if you think i got it right. I tried to choose a various, mariah penned only, and the majority were mariah sung only tracks, only one cover version was used to showcase how she reinvents a classic by another well known female singer.....

1. Petals / Rainbow Interlude
2. Close My Eyes
3. Fly Like A Bird
4. Looking In
5. O Come All Ye Faithful / Hallelujah
6. Outside
7. Lead The Way
8. The Roof
9. My Saving Grace
10. Whenever You Call
11. Do You Know Where Your Going Too?
12. Now That I Know
13. Vanishing
14. I Am Free
15. All My Life
16. Subtle Invitation
17. Underneath The Stars
18. Jesus. Oh What A Wonderful Child
19. Languishing
 any thoughts?

I used to make cd's for a friend of mine who is a huge Whitney fan.
Usually I just chose the ballads:

I Only Wanted
Lead The Way
Mine Again
Whenever You Call
After Tonight
For The Record
etc.

The non-commercial ballads like Twister were never appreciated.
Neither were the 'hiphop' songs like The Roof or If We.

To anyone who tried to hate on me: shout out, shout out
Even the one's who tried to break me, even the one's who tried to take me down
There've been haters since this world been going 'round:
nothin' but love, nothin' but love
Ain't got nothin' but love

You have to include Everything Fades Away or Do you think of me. It's like a fan and non fan favourite. Same goes for Breakdown!! Brilliant songs that show different sides of Mariah.

Mariah's Greatest Abum Tracks Challenge

I'm not a fan of your whole selection. Was the challenge to come up with a track listing that totalled 80 minutes or did you give yourself 80 minutes to make a list? I would have chosen a lot more of her earlier stuff: There's Got To Be A Way Vanishing Alone in Love Prisoner And You Don't Remember Till The End Of Time Do You think Of Me? All I've Ever Wanted Everything Fades Away I Am Free When I Saw You Slipping Away Jesus Born On This Day Whenever You Call Lead The Way Clown Joy Ride Your Girl I Wish You Knew Circles HATEU One Child O Come All Ye Faithful The First Noel

"Vanishing," "Close My Eyes," "All My Life," and "Underneath The Stars" are obvious and necessary selections. But then I think these have to be included:

"The Wind" - she doesn't have another song like it, and it showcases her lower register (I'd replace "Subtle Invitation" for this)
"Everything Fades Away" - just a really mature vocal (you have 5 gospel-ish songs so maybe replace "My Saving Grace")
"Melt Away" - perhaps her best single that wasn't a single! (maybe over "I Am Free" since both feature her lower register)
"I Feel It" - just a fresh song in her catalog

If you are going to go with a cover, I wouldn't choose "Do You Know..." For one, she doesn't really reinvent it. For another, it isn't among her best vocals. I don't think you even need to include a cover, but "Bringin' On The Heartbreak" (the version with more full vocals) would be better.

Say what now? There's a version with more full vocals?? I love BOTH and if the the album version had more full vocals it would be even better.

I tried to bring a Varied mix to the selection. I chose DYKWYGT as a cover as 1. I love the song. 2. its a cover of a song originally sung by Diana ross more of a comparison as shes a female singer too, and 3. didnt have anything else from #1's (as i still believe was a released track) I LOVE the beautiful ones but its not all Mariah. I wanted mariah to the main focus. I did want to choose more from Mariahs earlier work but I do feel her writing skills improved towards the middle stages of her career. Its very hard to whittle down your fav mariah unreleased album tracks to 80 mins, some im afraid had to be cut.

^ I do think there are some gems on her first albums that Whitney Houston fans will love:
And You Don't Remember, Never Forget You, So Blessed, Vanishing...

What are the criteria for "released"  H.A.T.E.U.? Breakdown? Crybaby?

Fair point, but I feel like no-one but the lambs would have noticed they were singles.
