^Hers isn't any less disposable than Paula Abdul's, Milli Vanilli's, etc.. 10 years from now I doubt anyone will care about her songs. She's not this great legendary artiste that you think she is.
Isn't all music released nowadays 'disposable'? Even Adele's music is disposable imo. Who's gonna rave about Adele's music in 10 years time? She probably won't be able to sing in 10 years time.... I have a legit copy of '21' for anyone curious out there.
Times have changed, people's attitudes have changed, the younger generation that grew up in the digital era's attitudes towards music are different to those born in the 70's/80's/90's, music preferences change over time etc.
Since times have changed so much and is changing (at a rapid pace) it's harder to predict the future success of artists, hence record companies and artists are so interested in making disposable music (that sells), for the artists, they tour non stop and venture into every avenue possible to a) make money and b) stay relevant. Will Lady Gaga still be able to sell albums? Hard to tell, she has a huge digital following and herself and her team know what is necessary to help her sell and stay relevant, whether they will succeed it's hard to tell. Even if her 3rd flops why can't Lady Gaga have a 'comeback' like Mariah 5 years down the line? Does it even matter if she is able to sell records or not? She earns buckets just by touring, Celine Dion albums don't sell like hotcakes anymore, but she's filthy rich and she tours, touring is wear the money is at for singers nowadays anway - singers know this, singer release music in order to tour, no songs, no tour.
In the 90's a singer was a singer, an actor was an actor, if a singer turned actor most people would have commented on how they should stick to their 'day' job, singers/singers/dancers alike now need to ho themselves out into everything and anything.
Entertainment/Music use to be simpler, yes the studio's and record companies etc. had total control, ripped off the consumer and made loads of money, but at least this control and money they earned meant there were quality products (to some degree), now because the consumers have much more power, the tides have changed, everyone thinks they can be the 'next big thing', YouTube, talent show TV etc. entertainment has gotten stale too much, too fast, too easy, little risks involved, 'I don't give a sh!t attitude'....
Entertainment is a luxury, not a necessity, it's like eating your favourite chocolate everyday, every year, for free, not only do you get greedy and fat, you take it for granted, eventually lose interest in it, get sick of it and not appreciate it for what it is.
I'm cold and don't know what I'm rambling on about... gonna snuggle up next to my heater...
