Is it All I Want For Christmas Is You?  I do believe it has become her signature song.  Any thoughts?

It's been her signature song for a few years now. It dominates every Christmas season and it's the one song by her everybody knows and loves, even the haters.

yeah i would say AIWFCIY would be her real signature song.

I think Hero, ABMB, WBT, and Fantasy Remix would be canidates for one format or another.

Absolutely & completely true (especially the haters part which is a very strong point), BUT... if you ask someone in JUNE (or any other time of year which isn't the holiday season) what the most famous Mariah Carey song is -- you would get different answers.

We've had these discussions here a lot and I actually came to a conclusion that the fact she doesn't have one definitive signature song is actually a good thing. The fact some people will say "Hero", some "Fantasy", some "I'll Be There" and some "We Belong Together" (and in Europe, "Without You" or "My All") to me demonstrates Mariah's success, longevity & shows how she appeals to different demographics (in age and musical preferences). That, and that she has more than just one song associated with her, people know she's more than a "one hit wonder".

In terms of critics and the general population, "AIWFCIY" is easily her most liked song. As has been said, there are no real haters. Every December it sort of makes her famous again.

Within the music industry, it might be that "Vision of Love" is her signature song. Countless singers have named the song as a big influence on them, and a lot of rappers have mentioned listening to it in prison.

In a more general music sense, I think "Hero" would be her signature song. It's the one that is performed the most at awards shows, in talent contests, in tributes, etc. It's her most famous song, though in some sense I think it's removed from her (i.e. is almost known more as a song in general than as a Mariah song).

It's between 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' and maybe 'Hero' for the "signature song" title.

'Fantasy', 'Always Be My Baby', 'We Belong Together', 'Vision of Love' and 'Without You' (Europe) are all classics for her as well.

It does seem to be the case that it is AIWFCIY, at least in the states. I think "Hero" is still thought of as well.

Oddly enough, I think One Sweet Day is pretty much forgotten by the public at large, but maybe I'm off on that and it does well on radio or something, but it seems like for such a huge single it is one of her less well remembered songs.

It's huge elsewhere too; Japan, Australia, all over Europe. It's by far her biggest and most enduring hit worldwide. This year alone it charted within the Top 20 in at least 10 countries (and would have in the US as well if it were allowed to chart). And because it becomes so huge each Christmas, it's definitely the song by Mariah that young kids are most likely to know as well.

although i have to say everytime i play this song to random friends they wld say 'oh i love this song!'

"Always Be My Baby," "Fantasy," and of course, "All I Want For Christmas Is You." I do think "We Belong Together" could end up being a signature hit, but it hasn't received as much recurrent airplay as I expected it to.

"Always Be My Baby" has always been one of my favorite Mariah songs of all time, but I didn't start hearing it as a recurrent on the radio as much until the Emancipation era -- and since then, I've heard it regularly on so many different stations in different states each year. People remember "Hero" for sure, but I think in the United States, after "All I Want," "Always" seems to me like her signature song.

^I don't really think there is actually a person that doesn't like this song.It is the only Mariah song with a universal appeal..And that is fascinating!

Um, Mariah's signature song is obviously "Prisoner".

Seriously now, while AIWFCIY is Mariah's most acclaimed, successful and enduring song, I don't see it as a song that's necessarily associated with Mariah by the public. The song stands on its own as a classic, not as a Mariah Carey classic, which is why I think "Hero" is that classic song that people will actually associate with Mariah herself.

Agreed. It's definitely her most prominent song. And I think in a way that goes beyond chart success. The song has stood the test of time and will continue to be everywhere every season.

The fact that Mariah is the only artist in the modern era to write a classic christmas song like this is an achievement even her peers like Whitney and Celine haven't been able to do. It's overlooked because people don't listen to it outside of christmas (well, apart from some lambs

I feel Hero is more like a signature song by Mariah. AIWFCIY is like a classic holiday song which everyone likes but seldom gives credit to whoever sings it. If just a regular folk goes to see Mariah Carey's concert I guess the person would more expect her to sing HERO than AIWFCIY.
