Come on, do you really equate Adele with Norah Jones? Please. I think that a more realistic comparison is Alicia Keys. They both had huge singles and huge album sales, and Adele will most likely win some Grammys. If anything, Adele is the new Alicia Keys - a multiformat artist.

They don't play Adele on Urban though... do they?! LOL
They wouldn't play Adele on Urban radio. "Rolling In The Deep" is #1 at Hot AC and Top 20 at both AC and Alternative radio, meaning she IS a multi-format artist.

Sure, but how does that merit an Alicia Keys comparison? smiley: grin

Adele also lacks Rhy airplay so that's 2 major formats she's excluded from. I also don't see Adele producing multiple top 40 hits like Alicia.

Alicia's debut only spawned two Top 40 hits. So, Adele is already selling (the equivalent) of Alicia in 2001, she's had one Hot 100 Top 2 hit / Pop Top 10 hit, she'll most likely win multiple Grammys. Yeah, she's so much more like Norah Jones than Alicia...

Adele isn't like Alicia Keys or Snorah Jones. She's actually a dynamic, fascinating, talented artist who makes songs that aren't mediocre and/or elevator music.

Ok, calming down

I don't understand how that has anything to do with Adele not appealing to urban and rhy formats, or me not thinking Adele will continue to release albums with top 40 hits.

^We were discussing how THIS album was performing. And the only reason she's not doing well at Urban: she's a white English chick, and Rhythmic: because her music is not dance-pop or uptempo hip-hop (the only genres that are doing well there). If Alicia released a song like Fallin today it would bomb harder than Beyonka's new single.

Clearly, and the fact still remains that's two of the bigger formats she has no appeal at like Norah and unlike Alicia. Anyways, I dont think Adele is quite like either of them musically or chart wise. I don't even understand the point in picking an artist who has performed like Adele and then debating why or why not its a good comparison lol.

^ Well, why do we discuss anything here? Most of it is pointless lol. But since we are, a few of us were saying that Adele is more like Alicia than Norah, in that she has a crossover/iTunes hit and album sales, unlike Norah who appealed to soccer moms only.

I know Alicia isn't very liked here at FOMM. smiley: laugh I figured I'd be alone in my opinion.

However, "The Piano" says otherwise. smiley: roll

Alicia is a hack. It was made such a big deal about her being this 'great writer', meanwhile she had five other people writing on every track - and most of them were mediocre at best.

That's kind of more a testament to how irrelevant she is to pop culture than anything else, imo.

smiley: laugh True, but it just allows her to look all the more credible to the music industry.
