Britney is a worse singer. J Lo isn't good, but Britney is far worse. When you sound constantly bad and 'computerized' on a studio recording. That means you suck and she sucks vocally. Everytime I hear a song from Britney it sounds like the voice was digitally altered and still doesn't sound that good. At least JLo has a much better tone and everything she does doesn't sound computerized even if it is. Let's get real here.

I was being kind giving Britney a 3.

Eh...I guess it's a matter of taste.  Neither of them are real singers obviously, but I'd say J. Lo is far worse.  Britney's voice doesn't grate on me like J. Lo's does.  It doesn't even sound like she's singing - just talking nasally on pitches smiley: roll

Some of my ratings:

Kim Zolciak - 1: The ring didn't mean a thing to you.
Britney Spears - 3: She can't sing and has an awkward tone, but when she has better pitch than J-Lo
Jennifer Lopez - 3: She has horrible pitch, but her tone is naturally more listen-able than Brit or Rih.
Rihanna - 4: It's obvious that she tries to sing badly on a lot of songs ("Run This Town" being the worst), but she can carry a tune much better than those two.
Ke$ha - 4: If she really tried, she might be better. Talk-singing is obviously her forte.
Katy Perry - 5: When she sings softly, it sounds pretty. Her belt is overpowering and painful.
Aaliyah - 6: Beautiful head voice and nice belt.
Monica - 7: Great voice, above average. Thick tone.
Brandy - 7: Beautiful voice and can make so many textures with her voice.
Lady GaGa - 8: I think people are going by her material and not her actual vocal ability. Singing wise, she is quite above average. She has a beautiful tone, great pitch, and doesn't over sing.
Beyonce - 8: Beautiful voice, but not as much power or range as Mariah or Whitney.
Tamia - 9: Her voice is so beautiful and powerful. Amazing pitch. Still not a 10 though.
Deborah Cox - 9: She murdered Whitney on "Same Script, Different Cast" but does not have a lot of variety in her voice.
Celine Dion - 10: Enough said.
Whitney Houston - 10: Enough said.
Mariah Carey - 10: Enough said.

In terms of current pop singers, excluding mariah, whitney and celine (because they are unanimously voted the 3 best of the past 3 decades and are all 10's), I think Kelly Clarkson has by far the best voice. I'd give her a 9.5. I think she's the best non-mariah "mariah", well, ever. I think Gaga is an 8 as well, I think her tone is pretty great. I'm not a fan of Beyonce's voice, but I can recognize she is a great singer as well. I'd give her a 7.5.

I occasionally love Rihanna's voice, but realize her range is extremely limited. I'd give her a 5.5. And, at the moment, I'd say Ke$ha is the worst. I think her talk-singing is even atrocious. I'd give her a 3.The worst part of that is I really like some of her songs, but think she ruins all of them. If Britney sang all of her songs, it would be amazing.

In terms of Britney- I won't even rank her voice. I'll just say that (abashedly), I love it. Her tone is extremely unique and I love that she is sort of acting when she sings. People always say it's all autotune and vocoder and stuff- it's not. I also happen to think her voice on a lot of her ballads is beautiful (Everytime- her snl performance of everytime proves she can sing ballads live, My Baby (i love how raw and pretty her vocal is), and her softer singing voice has some gorgeous tones.

Regardless, Mariah is #1 without question. I just watched her "Emotions" performance from unplugged- in the first 20 seconds, she wipes the floor with any other sing I've ever heard with her power, range, melisma, control, tone- holy poop she's amazing.

That question was mean of Jimmy. Everyone knows Jennifer can't sing and if Randy said anything less than 5, he would probably have to call in sick the next day or face Jenny's wrath. I am glad he mentioned Mariah though!

I agree with most of your ratings, but anyone that can sing so beautifully live, as Tamia does, deserves a 10.

I do think Jennifer was just a pawn in the real fued between Mariah and Tommy. I don't think it was a case of Tommy and his evil sidekick J-Ho scheming on ways to sabotage Mariah's career like some fans think.

Mariahd definitely had a problem with J-lo around the Glitter and CB era because she was the face of the ploy that Tommy was behind. Mariah no doubt put it behind her when she came back strong and it was clear her career wasn't over come the 'TEOM' era, and probably even more over it when J-lo's career went down the crapper.

So I do believe J-lo when she said there was never any fued on her side.

Britney back in the day definitely could sing better than J.Lo. Britney actually had a sense of melody and could sing on-key. Just listen to the bridge of Sometimes, J.Lo could never sing that.

It takes two to have a feud and this clearly wasn't one. It's was all in Mariah's head and one-sided. She saw slights that wasn't there. She was paranoid about the whole situation, hiring a PI to investigate Tommy and all. If it wasn't Jennifer it would have been another female artist. Tommy saw an opportunity and cashed in on it. It was a win-win for him.

Britney Spears cannot sing and never could. I put JLo's singing ability on the same level as Taylor Swift. I think Randy is insulting Lady Gaga here.

When has JLo ever displayed "shady" behavior towards Mariah? It's always been Mariah doing that to her. I believe JLo's a genuine Mariah fan. She was there cheering when Mariah got the Billboard Artist of the Decade award. And her first single (and general musical direction) was obviously highly influenced by what Mariah had been doing around that time. You know what they say about imitation being the greatest form of flattery. But to make it look like she was instrumental in all that sample stealing issue gives her too much credit in the songwriting and production of her own music. I agree that it was all Tommy. She most probably wasn't even aware of what was happening until Mariah brought it up.

Oh please. You're always so bitchy and quick to dismiss Mariah. Mariah wasn't just paranoid, Tommy was deliberately trying to sabotage her career. And it was obvious even before the whole song stealing drama, J.Low's whole look and sound was a copy of Mariah post-Butterfly. J.Low may not  have been aware of the song stealing, but that still makes her lame as it shows she has absolutely no involvement in her own career, she's just a puppet horny for success.

It might have seemed like a win-win for Tommy at the time, but in the long run clearly it was not. The suits over at Sony Music Japan were not happy with him for driving away their #1 best-selling artist. J.Low's biggest album didn't even sell as well as Rainbow. And a couple of years later Tommy was history.

Great post. I'm so tired of some people saying Mariah was paranoid, especially since many people have since come forward and talked about some of things they were asked/paid to do or saw.

I would love Mariah and J.Lo to do a record together, I would like Mariah and Madge to do a record together.

More amazeballs than IKEA Swedish meatballs.

Mariah is the best singer to have ever graced this earth, she's got nothing to worry about, feud, what you biatches talking about?!

Fans and Media get more paranoid than the people involved in the apparent feud!

Mariah, just do the records... to shut all these ppl up.

Mariah's next record should be duets... call it "Diva's & Bitches'

That is a pretty modern idea actually and you may be way ahead of your time.  It's the kind of gimmick I could see the music industry resorting to in order to drum up sales.

It's been done in rap music (the Jay-Z/Nas feud is pretty legendary) but there is certainly interest in these diva "feuds" that play out in the tabloids/internet fourms, but the singers never see any of that money.  Plus there are fans who follow the feuds even if they don't listen to those artists.

I always sort of suspected this is how Obsessed came about.  Out of nowhere (and when she's partnered with Nick Cannon) Mariah dusts off the Eminem thing and drags it out of the closet yet again.  Then Eminem records a response song that goes viral to mark the beginning of his comeback.

And oh yeah -- both of them have new albums coming out really soon.

It always seemed fishy to me and I suspect it came more out of a mutually beneficial business arrangement than actual hostile feelings.  They both know how to play the game and I think they were playing it together!
