Cool. She broke her Platinum streak with Memoirs (obviously not counting The Remixes or The Ballads which weren't proper albums), so I'm glad this album at least went Gold too.

That is incorrect though, because 1) Unplugged has more than five songs which is the limit for 'EP/shortform album' and 2) the criteria for EP/shortform album is still Gold (500,000) and Platinum (1,000,000), all per RIAA's website. It's a calculating error on RIAA's part.

Hmmm.... the website also says this about EPs: "Average minimum running time is 30 minutes."  MTV Unplugged runs at 28.7 minutes.  What does "average minimum running time" even mean?  "Average minimum" doesn't even make sense (or else I'm having a serious brain fart).

It doesn't make sense. And if they simply mean "minimum running time 30 minutes" then that doesn't make sense either. How can a 3-5 song EP be at least 30 minutes long? That would mean each song would have to be at least 6 minutes long, which obviously most songs aren't.

Yay! Fabulous news! Heres hoping that over the next few years, if Mariah decides to lift another track from the album to help promote each christmas time then Im sure in maybe 3-4 years it could be Platinum! Shame 'The Remixes' couldnt of managed GOLD too, her remixes are some of THE best dance tracks ive heard ever! She and Morales alone should have a remix album of just there work.....plus the whole Hip hop RNB cross over mixes too, she really does put Major effort into her re sung remixes they need to be appreciated more by the genral music buying public!

I agree it's a shame The Remixes hasn't sold better.  That album and GH were both released at a down time in Mariah's career, though, which could help explain it.  However, The Remixes actually is eligible for gold certification because it is a double disc album that has sold over 250,000 copies.  GH is also eligible for 2x platinum because it's a double disc that's sold over 1 million.  Sony just haven't updated those certs.

Remember the album was certified years ago when the rules were different.

I'm sure Sony could re-certify the album if they wanted to. Either 6xp for short form or 3xp as a regular album.

Which may never happen...

It's not a calculating error. It's been that way for years. 3xp for a short form album = 1.5xp for artist totals.

How do you know the rules were different then? They haven't changed for regular studio albums. Can you provide any examples of this occuring with other artists?

I know it's such a spcial Album in  her career to because she really should be remembered for her amazing remixes. I still hope Sony Re-Releases it on eday with mabe the WBT and DFAU Desert Storm and maybe Obsessed or H.A.T.E. U Remixs. It be cool if they sold it along with a DVD of all the Remix Videos she has made in her career.

A Title The "The Remixes Take Two" wouldn't be bad. I would love something like that with her best Remixes with IDJ and jems like Underneath The Stars Driffting Mix, Breakdown Mo Thugs Remix ect.
