in occasion like friends gathering, leisure class, or date, do you consider being on time important? how many minutes late do you consider disrespectful for the event? or generally are you a person who always being on time??

I start this topic because I am not a serious taker about punctually, at least for friends meeting or casual gathering, or even going to church lol....some people i know are same as mine, but I also know lots of people who take punctually very seriously, which they implicitly push me hard on meeting their standards. So I would like to see you guys point of view

I definitely think punctuality is important.I'm always on time.Actually most of the times I arrive 10 minutes earlier on my appointments/dates/gatherings etc.

You know, sometimes sth happens, sth comes up out the blue, and you can be late. That is forgivable of course. But there are people who are always late. They just do it deliberately for their own reasons and they expect you to accept it and be ok with it.These people are rude and disrespectful and they make me mad.I can wait for 10-15 minutes maximum. Then I'm gone!

Yep. I personally find it very more rude than being made to wait on someone. The only time I don’t mind is if I’m joining a group of friends at a bar – when my lateness won’t actually make any difference. If someone is waiting for me, then making them wait more than 10 mins is rude, unless you have a proper excuse.

I’m seldom late for work as well.

I believe punctuality is very important. It's a sign of common courtesy.
If you make an appointment with someone, you should make the necessary arrangements to keep that appointment
(plan your day, leave 10minutes earlier to account for traffic or unexpected delays...)
I also feel that if you are running late, it is polite to let the other person know. Making someone wait is just plain rude.

Lets put it this way, you are never going to be late for a job interview. So why should any other appointment be any different?

Having said this, I must confess that as doctor I have not always been timely with my patients (sometimes this is beyond my control due to commitments with another patient). But whatever the case, I still aim to be punctual.

Bottomline, someone like Mariah would drive me crazy!!!

Speaking of timeliness, I have to go perform surgery...........brb later in the day.

i still agree being on time is a respect
but some countries (like mine), people may sometimes taking time a little bit too seriously. We cannot tolerate a 30 secs late evaluator, 2 minutes late bus, complain food too slow to serve, hotel forcing guests to move out exactly on time...the whole city is running competition and proud of being early, fast and time efficient....honestly i am kinda annoyed by that , at the same time complaining my food delivery too slow to come

I don't think we should be anal, or overly pedantic about it. I just feel that we should be mindful of proper etiquette from time-to-time; especially in a professional setting.
When you meet your friends and people that you trust, the mood is obviously more relaxed and informal, so it's not really a big issue.

yeah, I try not to take my job too seriously. You need to find a good balance between work and play; especially in this line of work.
When you deal with cancer patients everyday, the last thing you need is more stress.
And happiness is also beneficial to the patients - staying positive gives them hope and takes a little worry out of their day.

For work I can't be late (as I am a teacher).

On other ocassions, I'm usually just in time or a few minutes late.

When it comes to other people, it depends who it is. I know Dutch people will usually be on time.
But I've also lived in Curaçao (Netherlands Antilles) and there it's common to come way too late.

And so I stand here and testify
To small and great alike
So the more you curse me
The more you're blessing me
The Word said it
Love your enemies

Do good to those who curse you
Pray for those who mistreat you

(Wish You Well / Mariah Carey)

I'll always be a rush to get somewhere... I hate being early and waiting around, so I always try to time it so I'm there on the dot

do you guys also have these moments where you are actually sitting at home, *waiting* to go at the right moment, because there is noting useful you could do in the time that is left, but you don't want to be early and wait wherever it is you go, and then end up going a bit early anyway, because it's just so boring and unnerving to sit at home and wait for nothing but to leave?

Absolutely.

So When I have to leave at like for instance 8:45..and I see the clock on 8:15…I wait and wait and wait..and then I just leave at 8:30 because I hate waiting longer haha.
