Sure it's not an album you'd want to check out for it's depth or whatever, but it's a feel good album with a lot catchy strong songs on it.

This. Aside from Love Story and Last Kiss (never managed to like these 2) still love all the other songs - FTR, Migrate, TMB, T4N and SE are still as good now as they were a year ago (for me at least).

her best album post butterlfy for me.
Migrate, For the record, Love story, Thanx 4 nothin, LYLT, IWYW, Side effects all are excellent songs... I think the weak points of the album are LK and CC which are versions #2 and #3 of SIO... TMB isn't particularly great either but it's way catchier than those two. The vocals are iffy on a few songs (ie ISIL) and the pitch correction is kind of annoying and the productions are kinda bland on a few others (LK, BB) but overall I can listen to the album without feeling a particular need to skip any songs. I skip 3/4 of TEOM, I skip all of Rainbow and Glitter basically... and from Memoirs I just have BGK and HATEU on constant repeat... E is a really consistent album overall... I don't get the hate for it and I completely disagree with whoever says it's a collection of singles. That description would fit an album like Rainbow which has no cohesiveness whatsoever. The songs on E flow well together. There's no song in my opinion that feels totally out of place on the record...

I LOVE both albums for very different reasons. Yet both seem to have the same weaknesses, horrible endings.

I'd love to have a Mariah record that sustains the energy throughout, instead of petering out at the end with "fan" inspired nonsense.

OK, I'll put on my lamb hat for this thread, because that's what E=MC2 does to me.

Let's see. Ranking E=MC2 songs, out of 10:

Migrate - 10 (needed to be a single. I don't care what anyone, L.A. Reid included, says)
Touch My Body - 10 (an iconic song for Mariah, especially in this era of pop music where songs needn't last longer than their immediate impact)
Cruise Control - 7.5 (only because I feel like it's too similar to SIO. The +0.5 is for the acapella line she sang of it in the E=MC2 epk)
I Stay In Love - 4
Side Effects - 1 (It joins "Bliss" as the second only song in Mariah's entire catalog which I cannot listen to.)
I'm That Chick - 10 (needed to be a single.)
Love Story - 10
I'll Be Lovin U Long Time - 10
Last Kiss - 100 (not a typo. one of my all time favorite MC songs. I miss you JD!)
Thanx 4 Nothin - 9
O.O.C. - 9
For The Record - 10
Bye Bye - 6 (an opportunity gone wrong. Mariah can pull off this schmaltz, and I have no problem with it. My problem is that it was a misguided production. Is it a pop ballad? is it R&B? This song doesn't know what it wants to be. The "this is for my peoples"/"put your hands up high" and then wasting Jay-Z on the remix just doesn't work for this type of production.)
I Wish You Well - 10 (some of her best vocals since "Daydream", and more honest/raw vocals than anything on that album)
Heat - 9
4Real 4Real - 8

Overall - one of Mariah's most consistent albums. It is exactly what she described it - a FUN record. Even the ballads are fun (save for the banal ISIL) and the uptempos are spectacular.

I loved it when it came out, and I love it now even more. To me it stood the huge test of time, the songs on it only got better (ironically, "Migrate" is the only one that doesn't sound as "fresh" anymore).

This is my second favorite album after "Butterfly" and I think it is light-years better than its predecessor "Mimi".

To me it will go down as one of the most "missed" projects of her career. I just can't get over the poor 2nd single choice, and the poor handling of everything after that, like the decision to release "I Stay In Love". I think even after "Bye Bye" flopped, this project still could have been saved. "Migrate", "I'm That Chick", "For The Record", "O.O.C" and "I'll Be Lovin U Long Time" deserved to be radio hits.

Yeah, Ithink Mariah was described it better calling it "dessert" after Mimi's main meal I agree with most of what you said except for Side Effects 1?!?!? lol no way!! and I never quite understood you love for Last Kiss.... I remember you praising this song so much when E came out, but I just cant see it as a great song. But I guess we're not all the same btw, its really good to see some love for E

I hate how I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time, which is an amazing song, doesn't have a decent fade/ending on the album version, it's just abruptely cut to Last Kiss

I definitely like the album. I don't listen to older mariah songs a lot in general, and I'm listening to non-instrumental songs less and less.

With that being said, it's so much more of a compliment when I say that I still listen to Migrate regularly. It's probably my most played mariah song. I'm also still listening to OOC a lot, OOC gets a lot of negativity, but imo it's one of her freshest (in general, not in terms of what would work on the charts today) songs, and definitely a different style, which I love.

I never liked TMB, it's too slow and somehow annoying for me. Can't help it. But the only song I really cannot stand at all is ITC. I had imagined it to be a really great song from descriptions, and the reality was too big of a shock Last Kiss and Bye Bye are really forgettable as well.

A lot of the songs are ok-good, but I don't really listen to them anymore. I agree it's a fun album, and if I was in the mood for a fun pop/r&B album it would satisfy me brilliantly. Apart from Migrate and OOC, my faves are still Side Effects, IBLULT, T4N and FTR. And I still think that ISIL is just easy to listen to. I understand that it's a 'cheap' WBT rip-off.... but the music and her voice are just easy on my ears... no screeching, nothing annoying, just easy-listening, nothing great or special, just easy.
Since we got to hear the acoustic version of Love Story, I have to say that I dislike the original, because this could have been an amazing song acoustically... the JD beat takes so much from it. I have the same feeling about Angels cry.

In comparison, I don't listen to Mimi at all anymore. Not one of the songs. It aged extremely bad with me, and even Memoirs... only Betcha, HATE U and Standing O will stand the test of time at all. the rest was over 1 week after the leak......

I used to think Last Kiss & T4N were incredibly boring, but they have grown to be some of my favourites actually!!
Especially T4N, something about that song always gets me.

I still don't understand why a person would invest so much time in an artist whose last FOUR albums they didn't even like.

I've been listening to "Vanishing" lately, which is such a stunning song BTW, and I realised how much "I wish you well" was crafted to remind us of that song.
From the soulfull piano to her vocals; "Noohohohohohhooo weapon formed against....." She was obviously trying to prove something here.
Even the backingvocals are sort of arranged like it.

I'd go as far to say it was her #1 most missed project. E=MC2 could easily have been a second TEOM (expect maybe in direct sales) but could easily have built up a slew of solid hits that easily appealed to diverse audiences. Definetly the biggest missed oppourtunity of her career that deserved so much more.

And I will never understand how you always manage to not understand me at all I don't think you really care, but I'll still try to explain how I see things, and maybe you will have an enlightenment concerning me, or, as I expect, you will not

OK here's the thing:

Yes, I've grown to listen more to instrumental than (let's call it for the simplicity) pop music. That doesn't mean that I don't listen to pop music every now and then, and Mariah is and always will be my favourite artist when it comes to that. I'm not really investing that much time, all time I spend on Mariah at all is spent on FOMM, and I'm a lot here at the moment, because I'm on break and bored. I'm still interested in Mariah and her music.

As to her last four album, and me me 'not even liking them'.... (we're talking about CB, TEOM, E & Memoirs here right? lol):

first of all, and that's important... at the point I'm at right now, I don't expect nor wish or have to like 95% of an album to still care about it. As pop music is a nice diversion for me, 2-3 songs that I absolutely LOVE makes me happy enough with an album.
So, I'm absolutely happy with Memoirs, I still love Betcha as my all time fave alongside Looking In, and HATE U and ST O are still up there. I never expected more and I can love the album for that and be very happy she made it. And I'm not saying either that the rest is crap... a lot of the songs are pleasant enough to listen to. Only since I'm listening to pop music less often, I'll listen to the beloved songs first, logically.
I think I actually praised E enough in my original post... there are two songs I still listen to very regularly and several more that I still like and listen to every now and then.
I loved TEOM when it came out and a long time after that.... ok I'm not into it anymore, at least not right now, but, you know, who cares? Maybe in a few years I'll revisit a song and love it again... maybe not.
And ok, yes, I hate CB. Can't deny that.

I don't really spend online time on other messageboards, this is the only one, because it's a nice way to get a diversion from reality, and like I said, Mariah is my favourite singer, and why not visit a messageboard for the one 'pop' artist I really care about?

Mostly agree, the only huge objection I have is your diss of Side Effects.  I mean, I guess we all have different tastes, but I'd think as a fan, you would at least appreciate the lyrics.

Still my fave from hers this decade, mainly because there are so many uptempo's on it. Enough to compensate for atrocities like Bye Bye and Love Story.
I'll Be Loving You Long Time, Migrate, For the Record, I'm That Chick, Side effects, Thanks for Nothing would probably all make my Mimi top 10 of the 00's.

OK, so as much as Memoirs is my second favorite album of her entire career, it's not so good for bumpin' in the car with the windows down on a nice spring afternoon. There is only so many times I can play Ribbon, More Than Just Friends and Inseparable.

Since it's been so warm the past week, I've found myself DYING to listen to E in the car. I've forgotten how much fun it was just to play with the windows down while I'm driving around town.
