Nelly also sampled that Debarge song in Ride Wit Me. I knew Rihanna's song sampled that Debarge song, but I didn't realize it didn't credit the sample.

Speaking of 'Rude Boy', that song is Greatest Gainer at Urban right now. I honestly don't even see its Urban appeal.
'Hard' was far more Urban than this and it never was this smash during its (short) run at the format.

I understand that they're playing it because they always play Rihanna to an extent, but to be Greatest Gainer and almost top 10 this fast it's surprising to me...

It's lame cos it's not an R&B song, it's Dance. But I guess even radio doesn't know the difference anymore.

Exactly. 'Rude Boy' and 'Imma Be' stick out like sore thumbs on the Urban chart right now
And R&B songs like 'TSWABH', 'Sex Threapy' and 'I Am' took forever to go top 5 (I know Alicia and Mary's followed flops, but still) and are from establihed Urban acts.

'Rude Boy' and 'Imma Be' are both still a lot more Urban than something like 'Halo' though, which Urban played.

No, I'm sorry, I don't agree. Just because 'Rude Boy' has some ghetto-fied lyrics doesn't mean it's Urban. 'Imma Be' is just as Pop as the other singles the BEP have released. 'Halo', on the other hand had a R&B-leaning beat IMO and considering Beyoncé's history at Urban radio, it was a no brainer that they would play it.

Oh, come on.  'Halo' is straight up AC.  You know if a white singer sang it Urban wouldn't touch it.  'Rude Boy' is dance-urban imo, and 'Imma Be' is like pop/rap.

How is 'Halo' AC? You're probably right about the white singer thing (Urban didn't play 'Already Gone' in fact ), but 'Halo' has a R&B beat and the production/vocals are R&B enough for Urban radio to play it. And, as I already said, Beyoncé's name helped it a lot.
'Imma Be' is Pop/Rap, but Urban didn't play any of the Flo Rida singles (except for 'Be On You' but that was because of Ne-Yo and it wasn't that big either) and they are the same genre as the BEP singles.

"Halo" is an r&b influenced pop ballad IMO.
Uptempo's like "Rüde boy" & "Imma be" strike me as way more urban then "Halo".

Yeah, right. Then what is it, Rock? Alternative?
It's a Pop ballad with some R&B elements. Enough for Urban radio to play it and make it peak at #11

"already gone" is not an R&B track by any means, yet it's basically the same song as "Halo" so how is "Halo" an r&b song?
That's because their production is different, but the melody is the same. The drums are different, the strings are different and 'Already Gone' has guitars, whereas on 'Halo' synthesizers are used.
And I never said it's straight up R&B. I said it is grounded in R&B, which is different. But it's certainly not a straight up AC ballad.

But they're both Pop songs, from Pop acts. And looking at the Urban top 50 right now, they are out of place.

Rude Boy sounds more R&B/Urban than Pop to me, especially the lyrics. Its not like Urban radio is forcing a non-urban song on listeners. Urban listeners clearly like the song, which is more important than pin-poniting its exact genre. Some songs just fit multiple formats.
