Let me explain something...IDJ is a company (not a not-for-profit organization) that invests a great amount of money into their product (Mariah) in the hopes of a good return. You really think they pay her a multi-million dollar contract and spend tons on the production and promotion costs of her albums for their health? I assure you that anything Mariah's done since TEOM is not "icing on the cake". Now, of course Mariah is rich enough to not have to record another album and still live a comfortable lifestyle. But if you think Mariah/IDJ don't care about how much she sells, you need serious medical attention. DISCLAIMER- this post does not intend to portray Mariah Carey as a souless commercial machine with no artistry. But IDJ views her primarily as not an artist, but a capitalist venture.

Thank God someone's got their business head on. Your post is totally valid of course but I suspect this particular project wont be profit aimed. Not because its a 'gift' or some other Care Bear stare BS that we're being fed but because its a boardroom decision to wrestle her into staying with an extended contract.

Even if she was unhappy with how IDJ handled the album, it must have been quite the temptation to have the label improve your album and get a whole second chance on it. How many artists get that kind of oppourtunity in such a cut throat industry?

That's a good theory, and if true, it means that of course the decision for this remix album to be released was business-minded even if it's not intended to make a profit. IDJ will let her release this project now so she'll stay with them in the future and go back to making hits. I'm expecting fairly low-key promo on this release. It wouldn't surprise me if it's very quietly shipped to Target stores. It's just not reasonable of IDJ/Mariah to expect big sales from this, unless one of the singles becomes a big hit. Watch people get all confused and go to the store and buy 'Memoirs', expecting to hear the remixes LOL.

I think they are really trying to see which song will take of AC or UOMF. Once one does if it takes off really well they will put more promo into the project but if she doesn't get a big hit at Radio I don't see much promo.

^ And that makes sense. Multiple and perfectly timed radio hits is what has sold Mariah's albums, always. Without that there's really no point in promoting.

Thats something they need to be careful of - that people dont go out and get the wrong album, ie; the original Memoirs. Their going to need a very focused and clear marketing approach on it so the consumer is educated properly, as well as a striking cover that sticks in the brain (so nothing like the Memoirs cover in a differant shade or other such nonsense).

^ I'm sure the cover will be the same as the tour poster and with a sticker naming AC/UOMF/whatever single they're going with. Well, I hope.

And also- not that there's really anyone here who falls under this description- why wouldn't people who don't like her music be interested in her sales? Some people are just into the music industry/charts. Is something so wrong with that?

Oh, after the mess I went through the other day, I'm considering just adding a DISCLAIMER to every post I write. Maybe I'll change my sig to one image.

So true- they better not pull a 'TEOM:UPE' and have Mariah in a black t-shirt/dress instead of a white one or something . Unfortunately, I'm sure there will be plenty of copies of the original 'Memoirs' on shelves so that really is something they need to consider.

Definetly, and thats an issue they need to consider. It will need a totally differant and memorable cover so they get the new version and not Memoirs.

Yeah, and I hope it's not that tour book cover. I know I'm in the minority, but I don't think it's flattering. I love the other angle (from the same shoot with her face to the side), but they made her eyes look all wonky and hazy in photoshop.

I know the original TEOM cover was over-photoshopped, but it was truly an iconic shot. She needs something like that again...the black/gold really stood out.

And I also think it represented the old school vs. modern vibe of the album really well. It was just a superb cover overall.

I really like this shot from the tour book, but I think it looks more like a single cover than an album cover...reminds me of the AYNAF cover:

I agree that the 'TEOM' cover is awesome, but I don't think Beyonce is available to pose for the 'AA' cover photo image

I agree. I got rid of the weird eye thing and changed the colors up to make it warmer. I don't think B&W covers really stand out. I liked the E=MC2 cover, but I don't think it stood out as much as the TEOM cover.

I actually remember from some interview with the photographers/photoshoppers that her entire body was painted that goldish/brown color.

I hope they don't use the current one on the main page here. It doesn't look natural. Either they photoshopped her face skinnier or it's a really old picture. If they are going to go all out, it would be best to do another photoshoot that looks nothing like the Memoirs cover, hasn't been used already in the booklet (the reshoots and 2008 Elle outtakes).
