2010 People's Choice Awards Arrivals and More

By Michelle Lanz

The people have voted! Check out who showed off their style (or lack thereof) at the 2010 People's Choice Awards.

After receiving her award for Best R&B Artist, Mariah Carey opened up about her tipsy moment at the Palm Springs Film Festival:

"Me and Lee (Daniels, the director of "Precious") hadn't seen each other in a long time. We had been sitting there having little splashes and I hadn't eaten. If people don't understand me and think I'm just this girl that stands by a microphone and sings "Hero," then they're definitely not going to get me. But if they knew me then they would understand I have a sense of humor and that's basically what gets me through life. We had splashes of champagne. I love Lee, but he's a bad influence."

Party on, Mariah!

Meanwhile, husband Nick Cannon played the role of the dutiful husband by helping Mariah maneuver in her floor-length gown. When asked whether the couple are preparing for any little ones, he told Wonderwall exclusively that, "We'll see. Obviously we're setting a foundation in the field for it. We always say that's a priority and something we have to take extremely seriously. We'll let everything go to the side when it's time to focus on that."

Mariah's awesome. I love her even more. I've been a fan since the early 90s and one of the things I love about her (besides the obvious...her timeless music and amazing vocals) is her awesome speeches (tipsy or not ) and how she handles herself with a situation. Also, I love when Mariah talks (or sings) as I learn a new word or vocab from her every time she does talk or her music that makes me look for definitions in dictionaries. Didn't Nelly Furtado said ine one of her interviews that she learned English through Mariah's music? Mariah's pretty smart, not too mention super talented, fun, and festive woman. A lot of people who hate or disses on her are just jealous 'cause they can never be what she is, so it's easier for them to hate her instead of admire and appreciate her. It's not like she's snob or bad person. Perhaps a lot of them has never meet her in person, so it's easier for them to judge her. I've met Mariah and I can say that I'm one of those blessed person to have met her and would love to meet her again. She's just as amazing in person as she is when we see her on TV or when we read her interviews.

I still don't get the big deal. It's not like she involuntarily stagedived in the middle of the speech. It's like when Mariah does something it's always exaggerated into being some big meltdown or something. I guess in a way it's flattering, because it only confirms what a huge superstar she is - they're always hated on by some. It's better to be divisive than not talked about at all.

And at least she's in the press, which can never hurt with a new single/album coming up.

And she didn't even need to do that. At least she kept it natural, like it wasn't a big deal. It must be a slow news week, cause last time I checked Mariah isn't Miley Cirus. She's a grown woman who can do as she likes.

Just what I was hoping she would say and she nailed it. The woman is human and was drinking cause she was happy she was about to win an award for her acting which is huge for her. This is why we love Mariah because she doesn't pretend to be perfect and it makes u realise she human just like u and me. Love u MC!

i'm glad we have video of her response. it's just not the same reading the article. i LOVE how she responded and didn't apologize. i was reading some of the comments on youtube, and there are so many stupid comments and haters. i know that's not new, but i'm still kinda shocked sometimes. are there really that many lame ass people in the world?

i agree with you all... BUT on the other hand i am a little sad mariah has ruined the moment. do you know what i mean? i really expected her to be all humble and nervous because she was given this award - finally acknowledging her talent in acting! i thought it was kind of going to be her first award for acting and i was hoping she was gonna say - all drunk up there - "i was so nervous because of this honor" bla bla - but she was plain drunk! that kinda ruined the moment. OR she could've said something along those lines at the people's choice press conference when she had the chance. but she keeps repeating the same ol' sentences about the movie... *yawn* but still - i'm happy for her she seems to be in good place.

That's the one thing that bothers me about this whole incident. Some idiots turned this into another "Crazy Mariah" moment and reminded everyone of decade-old drama. Since when is being tipsy the same as being insane? Ugh, stupid people just irritate me.

She didn't ruin anything, the press just turned it into something it wasn't.
Just like when she addressed it, and jokingly said Lee is a bad influence. The media glossed over the fact that they're good friends and haven't seen each other in a while, and instead published headlines like "MARIAH BLAMES LEE FOR DRUNKEN DRAMA."

Nope. You're just being overly uptight.

I just love how she was unapologitic about it. Can't remember the last time a star said "Yeah, I was drunk, so what?", and they should because that way media can't say anything or create stories à la Paula Abdul.
