Last week, in-demand songwriter Claude Kelly called comparisons between Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera “crap,” citing the latter powerhouse vocalist’s decade plus longevity in a business where career success is fleeting.

Now, multiplatinum artist and producer Akon, who signed Gaga to his Kon Live Distribution label in 2008, is giving his own view on the musical battle that's igniting debate on both sides of the fence.

“Aw man, that’s not even any competition,” Akon tells VIBE. “You are actually giving Christina too much credit. She always had her cool little look and way about how she went about things. But soon as Gaga came out everything switched up. Christina stepped out of her own shell to become something different. And the crazy thing is Christina is really talented. She has unlimited range when it comes to singing. Her voice is out of here. I just think she just needs to believe in herself more. I think sometimes she gets insecure because of all of the success Gaga has had not realizing that she was already successful before Gaga came out.”

Akon hopes Aguilera’s upcoming album Bionic showcases more of her dynamic voice and less of the up-tempo, electro pop bad-girl anthems typified by her latest single “Not Myself Tonight.”

“Christina shouldn’t have anything to prove or anyone to compete with,” he continues. “I miss the old Christina Aguilera. I like the old one better than the new one. Honestly, Gaga and Christina could probably get together and do something that’s amazing. But that’s impossible if they are both trying to do the same exact thing musically.”

At least someone decided to speak the truth. But maybe she is not insecure, just lazy to create something original
Or not talented enough to. Despite what she says.

I did write 'seems' as I didn't include myself in 'everybody' as I don't like the song (yet).

she's always been hardworking and the quality control of her overall work is better than Mariah if i may, she has less fillers and most of her albums have the potential of having more than 5 singles. the problem with Bionic, i feel is that she took way too long to prepare the album, she's mentioned years ago that she's gonna do something electro-pop long before Gaga starts if (if i'm not mistaken) and now it's becoming like she's copying Gaga. well, they're both blond, Gaga has a million images, Xtina wants to be blond now, of coz there are gonna be similarities. i could easily identify few identical hairstyles+ensembles whereby Mariah looks like Shakira / Beyonce / Jessica Simpleton, i mean come on. but Akon is right in many areas, i've always imagined Gaga and Xtina doing something great together, vocally i think Gaga is (almost) there with Xtina. but Xtina has too much ego going on, the other day i just took some time to google through her feuds, seems like she's beefed with way too many people, Britney, Madonna, Mariah, P!nk, Gaga, Eminem, .. the list is just endless.

Exactly.
It wouldn't have made a difference if you had said almost everybody, how would you even know that? Have you surveyed about this song through the whole country?
If this song hits the top 5, come back to me, because at this point basically no one knows this song yet.

It's like that time you claimed a flopping Leona single to be  a huge smash in the USA, or the time where you said Forever was HUGEE in Holland, just because 1 radiostation played it a couple of times. You're not being realistic.

Well, Christina's new song is not a passion of mine and neither is Christina herself. But when a song is entering at #1 in the Tipparade and making a Top 40 entry the next week and also getting a lot of airplay, then it doesn't seem illogical to me that a lot of people seem to like the song.
But I guess it's good that I can phrase it to be very "say whaaat?!!" That's what a message board is for, isn't it?

Better In Time was a big hit in the USA. Although you can differ of course in opinion as it just missed the Top 10.

I never said Forever was HUGEE in Holland. However, I did say one of the most popular stations at the time (Sky Radio) played it in high rotation months before the single was released. Saying the only played it a couple of times is not being realistic as it was on high rotation for a couple of months.

Saying it's just the Bubbling Under Chart is not giving it enough credit. It would if it was lower in that chart. But in this case it was 'alarmschijf' which means it got heavy rotation: Not Myself Tonight is deze week de nieuwe Alarmschijf. Je kunt er de hele week naar luisteren, want Christina Aguilera met Not Myself Tonight is de Alarmschijf! (bron: Radio 538)

^ Because it's a fact. It missed the top 10 in airplay and sales following a huge hit. It didn't even go to #1 at Pop radio, after 'Bleeding Love' was a record-breaking #1 in terms of spins.

I'm not talking about Christina in this instance or her shitastic, forgetable single.

I was just giving an example as to why so many people passionately disagree with you on this board on numerous subjects - you have a very innocent, almost niave way of looking at things that seems very emotional/rose tinted. Its very sweet but not always subjective. And as I said, your very clever, almost politcal, in how you can then backstep on it when people call you out.

Its very endearing anyway. I'm just trying to point why people so often disagree with everything you say. Its certainly not personal.

I don't always post in topics I agree with the rest, because then there would be nothing to add.
I know it's not personal. (Although I have my doubts when it comes to Jasper.)

What is this about? I have nothing personal against you, I just rarely agree with you, and from what I can see on this forum, I am not the only one.
don't go acting like some victim now, I only comment on a post you made that I didn't agree with, that's all.

As a matter of fact I was the one defending you here when everybody was attacking you for having a hidden agenda.

I don't see myself as a victim. This is just a message board.
It's just something someone noticed and I can see the point.
Not because you disagree with me of course as there are more people who do, as you pointed out yourself.

But let's get back on topic. How high do we think the single and album will climb?
I think both will make Top 10 at least.

Not Myself Tonight does not sound like a Gaga record to me. Its very much dated urban-pop that Polow and Timbaland have been doing for the past 5 years (the song sounds like a track that didnt make the cut on Justin's FS/LS). Its a direction I would have seen her go in after Stripped if she didnt decide to make a fake throwback jazz/blues album. Anyway, Akon has made the Gaga vs. Christina media battle more real. He is clearly downing Christina in a  tactful way to make his product look better. Shady, but its for  Christina to be forever shaded. There is no way Christina would read that and have anything good to say/think about Akon or Gaga.

Better in time was NOT a big hit in the USA.

I would say it was a hit (#3 at pop radio with a lengthly stay in the Top 40 and 1.5-2 million downloads is a hit), but it wasn't a SMASH hit the way "Bleeding Love" was.

OT, but I personally preferred "Better In Time". "Better In Time" had a cleaner production and sounded way more like Mariah; lyrically, vocally and melodically. I always found "Bleeding Love" overrated, the production sounded messy and the lyrics were just repulsive to me.
