Yet you've already admited you've been following her from Genie In A Bottle? And your not a fan now?
What's the definition of a fan? I'm a fan of Mariah and Madonna. I go to Release Party's when an album is released. I go to their concerts. I've even travelled to France for Madonna and for Mariah to the UK and France. I buy their albums as soon as they're released. I buy all their cdsingles.

I've never been to a Christina concert. I do own her albums, but only bought the first one and the Christmas album. (Stripped was a present from my sister, Back To Basics was a Christmas present and I do not own the Spanish album.) So I like her, but not enough to spend much money on. So I don't consider myself a fan.

And so I stand here and testify
To small and great alike
So the more you curse me
The more you're blessing me
The Word said it
Love your enemies

Do good to those who curse you
Pray for those who mistreat you

(Wish You Well / Mariah Carey)

Cor, you should be a politician. That was a cagey but very PC answer.

Bit of a U Turn if you ask me, brought in when everyone called you out on that ridiculous "Europe loves and respects Christina" statement. If you werent making out you were an avid, knowledgeable fan, I dont know why then you pointed out you had been following her since Genie In A Bottle. That indicates fan to me (dunno about anybody else), not someone who casually buys her albums?

In that case, I've been following her since then too (God help me!) and your opinion is just as knowledgable as mine or anyone else from 1999.

I am a teacher and I guess that shows sometimes. I try to follow artists without prejudice. Even the ones I would never buy an album from. If I don't like someone's music, it doesn't mean they're not respected by the media.

Of course, of course - except with Christina, she's not respected by the media.

Also, Christina gets a lot of credit for releasing totally different albums up till now: pop (Christina Aguilera), latin (Spanish album), R&B (Stripped), Christmas, Retro (Back to Bassics).
"Stripped" is not R&B and her 'latin' album was simply a Spanish version of her debut marketed towards Latin America.
The media here give her credit for taking risks and building a carreer rather than going the easy way by releasing the same kind of albums year after year. She may not have sold as many albums as Britney for instance, but that's not what the media think is relevant.
Well for one Christina takes 20 years to make an album. I don't live in Europe, but it's odd how Madonna and P!nk (two artists who she's copied and two artists who have actually taken more risks than her) actually have the sales to back up their media coverage/praise in Europe.

I actually enjoy Falsas Esparanzas and Pero Me Acuerdo de Ti more than any of the rehashed songs.

IMO

christina DOES push the envelope, perhaps not as much as she's claimed, or as much as the media's hyped. not as much as Madonna, but definitely more than Mariah. at least she's tried to do something different with each album, no one can deny that her Stripped is very different fr her debut album, the sound, the concept, and that Bionic sounds very different from Back to Basics (which IMO is still one of the best crossover retro-big-band-jazzy-sounding-pop albums to date) .. and with Not Myself Tonight, she's definitely trying a different sound, perhaps not entirely original. but she DOES try.

The media doesn't care for her at all, there's hardly any publicity for her, bad OR good, which is never a good sign.

She's not and certainly not respected as an artist.
