It sounds like a second rate Dirrty based on the clip. I'd have to hear the whole song though.

Very short clip, didn't really like what I heard. Only the end sounded slightly better. I'd need to hear more though, at least the chorus.

i've been following the breaking of this campaign at another non-mariah forum (popjustice), and the stuff im reading seems to suggest that the record is still not 100% done. she's still in the studio. allegedly RCA freaked that her sound wasn't mainstream enough, and the project direction was changed from electro to straightforward mainstream pop (read: pop with synthsizers). the press statement seemed to be a bit fishy to me. perhaps i'm looking into it too much.

That would make sense, seeing as it was first announced as some left field electronica album with obscure producers, and now we're hearing about Tricky Stewart and the lead single is by Polow Da Don?? Something doesn't smell right.

I could definetly picture tension with the label considering she wants to be 'artistic' and risky. That album cover is not exactly typical pop act. Since her face isnt all that well known, covering half of it with cyborg implants is risky. You could walk past that in a shop and easily not realise its her. Not good from a consumer point of view.

Doing anything outside the box is a very dangeorus move at this point for her. She better hope it pays off. With no real success since 2002, I can be the label are getting anxious and hardly want their act doing something that could allienate her from a pop market that has already lost much interest in her.

I think it's a great album cover. Not really beautiful or anything like that, but I would definetly stop and have a look to see who it is.

From christinaaguilera.com:

(New York – NY– March 25th, 2010) -  With 30 million albums sold worldwide and the prestigious honor of being the only artist under the age of 30 included in Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of the 100 greatest singers of all time, 5 time Grammy Award winner Christina Aguilera has already achieved an unprecedented level of success. Aguilera’s been hard at work in the studio for the past year and is pleased to announce the release of her highly anticipated 4th studio album Bionic (RCA Records) on June 8th, 2010. The first single from Bionic is the fiercely energetic anthem “Not Myself Tonight”, produced by Polow Da Don. The song will premiere on ChristinaAguilera.com at 6pm EDT on 3/30, impacts radio on 4/5 and will be available on iTunes on 4/13.

Bionic features songs co-written by Aguilera along with her much buzzed about collaborations including Sia, Tricky Stewart, Polow Da Don, Le Tigre, Hill & Switch, and Ladytron among others. Aguilera notes, “Working on this album with so many talented artists and producers that I admire was really an amazing experience. The artists I chose to work with added so many unique sonic layers to Bionic.  My intention was to step into their world and what they do combined with my own vision and sound. The results were magic.”  The album also features a ballad produced and written by Linda Perry titled “Lift Me Up”. The title Bionic reflects Aguilera’s ability to take her range to new levels and use her voice in various ways never heard before.

Aguilera describes the album as a unique mix of many genres and styles of music, “I was able to explore and create a fresh, sexy feel using both electronic and organic elements with subject matter ranging from playful to introspective.  I am so excited for my fans to hear the new sound. It is something I don’t think anyone will expect.”

In addition to completing the album which was all recorded from her home studio after the birth of her first son, Christina also completed production on her first film, “Burlesque.” The film, which co-stars Cher, Stanley Tucci, and Kristen Bell will be released by ScreenGems this fall.

And so I stand here and testify
To small and great alike
So the more you curse me
The more you're blessing me
The Word said it
Love your enemies

Do good to those who curse you
Pray for those who mistreat you

(Wish You Well / Mariah Carey)

Its a unique cover but at a glance it would be impossible to determine that it was Christinas face. The vast majority of people would pass it by and not realise that was Christina. Its not exactly a standard album cover for a pop artist and not easily identifiable. Commercially, thats a risky move.

But how many people buy albums based on the cover design?

Right.  Except for this album, people will see it and go, "I didn't know Madonna was back to her bondage image" .

True, but most of the buying public can also read. It has her name on the cover, and add to that the possibility of commercials, talk show appearances, etc. and I am sure people will know it is her album.

Except in STDina's case it can only help not to have her face on the cover.

So people go along their local music shelves and scan for names from afar, not the faces of artists you know? Visuals sell a product from a shelf, thats a fact in marketing, not an artists name in font 3 centimetres tall from across your HMV. I know you stan for Christina but you could be a little more logical in your worship.
