I think that because Christina has been out of the spotlight for so long, and it's been forever since she has sung, that because she came out and belted her ass off at a charity concert and made her face look like it was full of sadness, that critics were "blown away." It's true that at their primes, Mariah and Whitney were 10x the vocalists that Christina is/was, but she DOES have a powerful voice and right now she is one of the only technically great voices in world full of Ke$has and Britneys, and that's probably where critics are coming from.

While I do think Christina has a great voice, I also don't think she knows how to use it properly, nor do I think she ever will. I think it's too strong for her to handle, but in the current musical climate, she's technically the best voice out there.

For me, Christina's vocal performance is on the song "Loving Me 4 Me" on the Stripped album. It's my all-time favorite Christina. It's the one song in her catalogue where I think she really shows all the colors of her voice. Besides that, her restraint on that song is very refreshing. There have been a few songs here and there that I've truly enjoyed (Without You, Beautiful, A Song For You, Slow Down Baby, Here to Stay, Welcome, Falling In Love Again), I think that when Christina can really show some artistry on a full album like she showed on Loving Me 4 Me, that's when I'll say that her voice has gotten better. Right now, her belting seems on the same level it was back in Stripped, and aside from the clusterf*ck of genres that composes her catalog and the constant switch in sounds from album to album (which some poor souls mistake for evolution...sorry, it's lack of an identity), she hasn't shown any growth as a vocalist. I still have yet to hear a song from her that emits any sort of real, raw, emotion, save "I'm Ok."

I don't agree at all. The only technical aspect of Christina's voice that's impressive is her range. She can sing really high. But her chest/belting voice borderlines on shouting/screaming and always has a strained rasp to it. And on this last performance, there were several off-key moments on the airy section she did. To compare that with pitch-perfect, crystal clear voices like Whitney and Mariah's, is just ridiculous. Christina is more on the level of Pink as a vocalist.

As for the best voice out there right now, I think that title goes to Kelly Clarkson. She has a powerful voice, decent range, she sings within her range, and she shows emotion.

I'm still *dead* @ her freaky screams at the end

And I can't believe some journalist had the guts to compare the woman who shouted that mess to Whitney in her prime

Its certainly one of the odder things I've seen. You'd think for an electro/future pop album they would have choosen clean, sterile images with a muted, cool palette. It would have fitted it better.

To me, P!nk is a better singer than she is precisely because she stays within her range and doesn't try to belt the sh*t out of every song.  She's also more emotive, although that's subjective.

I think they did this to send a message: "The almighty Godtina is coming back and she's going to be sh*ttin' on all of your favs!"

^ I passionately hated that performance, especially when she tried to pull a Mariah and failed.

UK:
#30 Singles Artist of the Decade (Mariah is #31)

Although Stripped was the #29 best selling album of the decade there with 1.9 million copies sold, she missed the Top 50 albums artist list.

the more you people talk - the more vapid you sound. Everything you say is irrelevant after any suggestion that Christina Aguilera can't sing, uses her voice improperly or is by any means untalented or doing anything less than unique and technically wonderful. However that performance of It's A Man's World - is not her best moment. LOL

No. It actually ranked 2nd (or 3rd) most memorable Grammy performance EVER

Another vocal performance that I really love:
