This is just my opinion but I think the reason that EMC2 was not nominated for any Grammys was because she ditched the 70s soul tracks and live instruments on this album. I think the reason why TEOM won best contemporary album was because of tracks like Mine Again, Your Girl, Circles and Fly Like a Bird. She didn't win the Grammy for tracks like ILT and SIO. The Grammys award those artists who are perceived to be in tune with musical history (see Alicia Keys) and hark back to the eras when most voters were teenagers.

More modern music tends to get overlooked. There are always exceptions to the rule but in general I think this is the case. This is why I was initially surprised that EMC2 totally ditched the sound that made TEOM work. Not because I want her to win Grammys but because it made the album sound very organic and because it is a sound that totally works for Mariah. TEOM was a perfect mix of past sounds with contemporary R&B. EMC2 is also a great album but sounds too samey with all the synthesisers and beats.

So I wish on the next album she returns to the live instrument organic sounds of TEOM at least for a few tracks. As much as I love EMC2 I would prefer more tracks like Circles and less tracks like ISIL. And who knows she might even get back into the Grammy's good graces again.

Mariah needs to do whatever music she is feelling at time time. F*ck the Grammy's. I don't buy this as a reason for her not getting any noms. Not. at. all.

I am sure she'd love another, but I hope she stops trying to kiss their a$$es, because it's a waste of her time.

She didn't because her material didn't deserve them.
Obviously that's your opinion.
I think it's one of her best albums and DID deserve grammy's.

TEOM was very popular. E=MC² wasn't. End of story.

Of course that is true. But every year there are countless popular albums that don't get Grammy love. All I am saying is the fact that TEOM was in tune with traditional R&B music played to Grammy voters advantage.

Most other R&B albums that are big with Grammy voters are similar, like Outkast, Lauryn Hill and Alicia Keys. They have old skool sounds with a contemporary twist.

I didn't say she should do this to kiss their asses, I said that it's the type of music from Mariah that I prefer from her. But I repeat, it's just my opinion. I would like more tracks like FLAB, Your Girl and Stay the Night, while other fans want more Migrates and I Stay in Loves. Each to their own. My only observation was that my preferences tend to get more Grammy consideration.

contemporary rnb is just that CONTEMPORARY --
Like I mentioned, the contemporary albums that are shown Grammy love usually have old skool throwback sounds with a contemporary twist.

I think, we should ask it first :

Why Mariah has only 5 Grammy Awards?
Most fans blame Mariah's lack of Grammys on Tommy Motolla and then her sexy change in 1997.

My theory is that the Grammys choose albums and artists that are commercial but walk a fine line between artistry and being in tune with musical history.

Mariah's albums tend to be just too commercial for Grammy voters and not 'arty' or 'creative' enough. Not my opinion, but my perception of how Mariah is perceived. The exceptions are TEOM and Butterfly. TEOM actually did pick up 3 Grammys and I think Butterfly missed out because it was ahead of its time for an artist like Mariah. If it was released in 1999-2000 it would have received more Grammy love.

had E=MC2 enjoyed the same mammoth commercial success as TEOM, i do think it would've gotten Grammy noms.

E=MC2's best chance was in the Best Contemporary R&B album category. And apart from Neyo, Mariah was actually much more commercially successful than the nominated artists.

'E=MC2' wasn't so big that the Grammy voters couldn't ignore it. And it never produced a really Grammy-esque song. The end.

Totally.
