Random discussion I was having last night image

If you had to be one or the other, what would you rather be? Someone who's unbelievably good looking, but thick as two short planks or someone who's ugly as sin but brilliantly intelligent?

I'd rather be ugly and stupid, but I'd rather date someone who's pretty and stupid.

Good looking but unitelligent, only because intelligence can be learned, you can study and your knowledge will expand. None of us are born with intelligence, we learn it, looks however you can not change unless you get surgery. Also these days, looks can get you furthur than intelligence, unfortunately.

Ugly and stupid? Short end of the stick, no? image

For me I agree with charmbracelet87, that's exactly what I said when we had this discussion. Better to be ugly and intelligent than pretty and stupid. Because once your looks fade, you're just an idiot LOL.

It must be awful for these people who rely solely on their looks all through life, once those looks fade. Must be a horrible experience

The question was would you rather be pretty and dumb or smart and ugly, not with someone. You could be ugly and smart, makes lots of money and get a pretty partner image

People keep saying looks fade. That's true, at least to an extent, but people can look good well into their 50s and even above. It's not like you look good for your 20s and then it's over. By the time your looks fade, you can be retired. What good is being smart at 70 going to do for you?

^It depends what kind of "good looks" you have. For men, the "boyish" look will fade quickly (and it's those types that tend to struggle with it), whereas if it's the rough/rugged good looks, that can go on longer.

In my experience its the "pretty boys" that tend to have problems once they start to grow older. Many guys in their late 30s/early 40s who still dress like they're 21.. I feel bad for them

Plus, it's very rare that good looks last. More often than not they can fade.

And being smart at 70 will have led you to having a good job, leading to lots of money and/or a great pension. I think it would pay off image

sorry but a pretty sight is what catches my eyes first. (keeping in mind tho whats hot to me is often bad news to others) image

anywhoo, after looks, we'll see what comes with it. and what exactly kind of stupid it is.

if its a "not so bright" kind of stupid, then it wouldn't really matter much. but if its a "i thought you guys lived in tents" kind of stupid..imageimage

^ ^ I know a lot of "stupid" people with good jobs and a lot of smart people with low-paying jobs. There are so many factors that go into getting a job (intelligence, looks, experience, knowing someone who works there, etc.) that I don't think it as cut-and-dry as depending on any one thing. I'd venture that looking good is as much of a key to getting a good job as being smart, at least in certain fields (business, law, etc. where you deal with people).

Those might not be the best examples, though You certainly have to be intelligent to be a business man or a lawyer.

In some jobs like PR, I can see your point though. I know plenty of stupid people who are attractive and people-people and that's all you really need for that kind of job.

Maybe I'm just saying this because I'm looking to go into PR, but that's not entirely true. To be a good publicist you need business skills among other things. That said, for simple party-planning PR I suppose you do just need the attributes you described .
