if it fails, i know everyone here will be saying "she released an artistic song, it was a risky single because it was about death" -- well bullcrap, it's the safest song on the album, and a total cop-out, not to mention it's not fair to the 9 or 10 single-worthy songs on the album.

I just wanna say -- in the AI thread, I wrote that I was proud of Mariah -- because even tho there are "commercial" decorations -- the song at its core is a personal song -- features a complex MariahMelody that you can't sing along to and I'm glad she's putting it out there and not burying the song. I don't think its a great 2nd single -- but it is brave, is a risk, and I'm proud of her for it.

It won't hurt as bad as you think if E isn't the "success" that TEOM was.

I love the new CD ... yes I do. My only concern is that it doesn't have the 6 million selling song ... a We Belong Together. WBT made Mimi what it was. I am afraid that EMC, just doesn't have something comprable. Bye Bye definitely isn't the track ... maybe Love Story. I don't know.

I believe that E's defining single is Side Effects -- only time will tell if it gets shed light on... i hope it does.

i agree 100% with him when he says that bye bye should not have been the second single. however, i think mariah has gone totally different and has taken it to the next level with this album. it sounds nothing like anything she has done, and for an artist that has been around for 18 years, that's pretty damn good.

the remix to bye bye isn't great, but it's not awful. it's just giving radios an extra track to play occasionally so people get a chance to hear a different version. i really don't think she was out to make some huge successful remix.

this album is my all-time favorite mariah carey album, and i've been a fan since the self-titled debut. so to say that she is choosing quantity over quality is obviously not true if a fan of 18 years' favorite album of hers has just been released. she has said it a million times she is making music that she loves, not so she can beat out the beatles. you might want to re-evaluate yourself as a fan.

I use to remember when mariah used to teach me big words growing up...( incessantly, euphoric, abruptly, dependency, suppressing etc.)

Bye bye has not grown on to me...its like Janets SO EXITED..overproduced....weak...and ebonic infested (peoples, them times, dialin' ya phone, give dudes they props etc.) BLAH!

BYE BYE will ofcourse do much better than so excited and already has but i they are both crappy singles ... i still enjoy the album!

but thats not to say it's not gd!
it's one of my fave mariah albums ever now
and wats up w all the hatred for bye bye
sure it's not the best track on the album but it's not bad
yes it can get a bit boring as a performance but e song is so emotional
as for the remix sure it isn;t that amazin but it;s not as bad as everyone says it is
ya i think we fans r too spoilt w all her resung remixes
but its so true... she's already 38 and she's doing hell of a promotion for this album
cut her some slack if she doesnt have time to re-record her vocals!

LITC Remix: I like it much better than the original. But it's not really a remix but a brand-new song.

Quantity over quality? If things were only that easy.. People have such short memory. It's not that long ago when Mariah was avoided like plague on the radio. If Mariah didn't release QUALITY music, no amount of QUANTITY will work on the radio. Mariah's been at this game for 18 years. Shouldn't you give her a little more credit for her business decision and musical acumen? Yes, she certainly is being formulaic, but then again she's never been much of a risk-taker when it comes to her work (with Glitter being about the only exception IMO). But that is because she's being careful, NOT carefree, cavalierly stamping out hits on an assembly line (as if something like that was actually possible). You can say she's being too careful and preditable, but it's unfair to accuse her of favoring quantity over quality in her music. She's only doing what people want her (or at least what she thinks people want) to do. She's even seemingly hesitant to release something like Migrate.

And for the record, can we please just think of the Bye Bye remix as Bye Bye, the radio cut and stop this fuming over her unthinkable, incredible lack of work ethic in releasing such an uninteresting remix instead of completely redoing and fixing everything some of you don't like about it (I mean how dare she?!)?

A remix is just that, a remix. I think you guys are giving this much more importance than it deserves. If Bye-Bye reaches number one, it will be on the strength of the original. The remix is suppose to be icing, that is all. So she heasn't come through with a great one yet, boohoo... Ya'll keep forgetting, Mariah has her own taste to. She probably LOVES this remix, as well as JD's involvement.

But I digress. I said from day one that Bye-Bye was a "label" choice, a safe choice to propel sales( no one believed me, everyone was in defense mode at the time). I don't think there's anyway in hell this was Mariah's first choice as a second single. Mariah was out there PERFORMING the tracks that she wants as singles, and Bye-Bye wasn't one of them. Why else did she run and slap out a remix so quickly? Mariah wants URBAN not SAFE.

Bye-Bye will share a similar fate that TGIFY did. It will hit #1 for a week, then disappear into oblivion. It's a good, safe song that won't offend any of Mariah's core base, or record buying public. It's also boring as hell, if for no other reason than we have been here before. But don't just blame Mariah for this. No song gets by IDJ without their final approval.

i have to agree that the ByeBye remix was nothing great. i was really really disappointed. she's really lazy with remixes these days. i have to agree in that her focus is commercial but at the same time i think she is putting a lot more of her personality into the tracks which i love. its weird, its like she's being commercial but at the same time its more honest than a lot of the previous stuff. i too miss groundbreaking songs. i think SE is groundbreaking FOR HER in terms of music style.

there's nothing wrong with wanting to be successful. let her have her moment, seriously.

but the non-existant remixes leave me wanting. remember the days of like 6 different remixes, each re-sung and completely different. the Butterfly remixes are just unbelievable. i reckon they could still battle it out on the current charts. take a song like My All and be given My All/Stay Awhile is just *dribble worthy*

Mariah is eternally 12 her music is very youthful why are you surprised. If you want serious music find Celine or Mary J. Mariah is about fun with occasional person stuff thrown in
