^^ Totally agree, that's the big problem with the album overall -- just that sense of blandness to it.
Yeah. Maybe it's just me but, I think of all of Mariah's albums, Music box seems to be the one less talked about in terms of how it all came about, the writing process, the aim of it all.
It would also be cool to know the sequence in which the songs came about. I think I read she began writing the album in August 1992 but as for when each song came about, who knows. Maybe Hero was first?
Are you saying that you think that would help it's reputation among hardcore fans?
Hero was probably early in the game, because that movie 'Hero' came out in October 1992.
I don't think there is anything 20 years down the track that would help its reputation among hardcore fans. It's been lived with way too long to change opinions now.
Music Box, even despite its iconic singles, is the least "Mariah" album. It is so AC & Pop and there is not a big sense of Mariah's true self coming through. To me, ATYNAF feels like the most disjointed cut on the album. It's an incredible track but too different from the rest to fit in almost. It's much more Emotions than Music Box.
