What does Alicia mean in this quote to Entertainment Weekly:
''I used to be a wall-building, feeling-hiding con artist. I'm at a whole other place now. I'm gonna tell it how it is and how I feel it. I'm not gonna sacrifice my spirit for nobody.''
I'd say it means that she's coming out of her shell more and revealing the person "As I Am"

I think she's takign the first step to coming out as a lesbian -- but I highly doubt that shes going to be public about her sexuality-- maybe just coming out to herself. Its crazy brave of her to call herself a con artist. I've always loved her but never believed songs like a Woman's Worth where shes picking her man's afro and all that. She always wrote songs on a universal level. Something to touch all people on a really general level -- songs like Fallin Womans Worth, IfIAGY, YDKMN.... all sort of great love songs -- but obviously not very personal.... I think this is the reason I love her songwriting, because I can totally feel every ounce of emotion that her lyrics convey and hear the pain and turmoil, and pleasure in her voice and still feel that none of what she sings about are direct references to her own personal life. Just her interpretation of what it means to be a human being.

the song Thats the Thing About Love is a good clue as to her current state of mind
"tell me that I am not the only one whos going through it all/Oh sometimes I feel like I'm the only one whos going through it all/Oh its my time/its my time/for me to shine"
