I personally find Alicia and Beyonce albums roughly on par with each other..... their singles are great, but mainly the rest of the albums are snorefests.
Except Beyoncé had 5 great singles from her debut, whereas Alicia had just 1. Not on par in my eyes. And in terms of album tracks Dangerously In Love has more interesting songs on it, even though they get boring too.
Come on now, let's be real here. Both Alicia and Beyonce's debuts are filler messes with a couple of hot singles. The only real difference is the fact that Alicia sold like 2 million more of her album, despite the fact that Beyonce had many more and bigger hits. And it managed to nab a major Grammy (SOTY), which Beyonce failed to do. So in that sense, Alicia's debut is more of a classic, even though neither album is a classic by any means.
Sales and SOTY Grammy wins determine classic status?
