I think the fact that there was never really a Mariah "craze" like there was for other superstars like Elvis and Michael Jackson and Madonna or even
Britney Spears that leads to MC being a little less known than the aforementioned. Mariah is super-famous, no doubt, but you actually kind of had to
be paying some sort of attention to American pop music to notice her. It's like how I've mentioned before in other threads how Usher can sell
twice as much as Beyonce but she's still twice as famous
. (Oddly,
the closest we've come to a real pop-culture Mariah "craze" may well have been TEOM... or, in a negative way, Glitter
).
People that aren't aware of her don't bother me (I haven't met many), what bother me are people who haven't realized (or atleast seem to not
realize) that Mariah made a huge comeback. It's a serious testament to how much farther bad news travels than good news when there are still those few
people out there that (apparently) believe Mariah's career ended with Glitter.
