I believe punctuality is very important. It's a sign of common courtesy.
If you make an appointment with someone, you should make the necessary arrangements to keep that appointment
(plan your day, leave 10minutes earlier to account for traffic or unexpected delays...)
I also feel that if you are running late, it is polite to let the other person know. Making someone wait is just plain rude.

Lets put it this way, you are never going to be late for a job interview. So why should any other appointment be any different?

Having said this, I must confess that as doctor I have not always been timely with my patients (sometimes this is beyond my control due to commitments with another patient). But whatever the case, I still aim to be punctual.


Bottomline, someone like Mariah would drive me crazy!!!
