i've been following the breaking of this campaign at another non-mariah forum (popjustice), and the stuff im reading seems to suggest that the record is still not 100% done. she's still in the studio. allegedly RCA freaked that her sound wasn't mainstream enough, and the project direction was changed from electro to straightforward mainstream pop (read: pop with synthsizers). the press statement seemed to be a bit fishy to me. perhaps i'm looking into it too much.

That would make sense, seeing as it was first announced as some left field electronica album with obscure producers, and now we're hearing about Tricky Stewart and the lead single is by Polow Da Don?? Something doesn't smell right.

I could definetly picture tension with the label considering she wants to be 'artistic' and risky. That album cover is not exactly typical pop act. Since her face isnt all that well known, covering half of it with cyborg implants is risky. You could walk past that in a shop and easily not realise its her. Not good from a consumer point of view.

Doing anything outside the box is a very dangeorus move at this point for her. She better hope it pays off. With no real success since 2002, I can be the label are getting anxious and hardly want their act doing something that could allienate her from a pop market that has already lost much interest in her.
