I have a very love/hate relationship with E.
I still think it's first and foremost a pop album, crafted for the sole purpose of making each song sound like a potential hit, without much depth. Now, I don't really have a problem with that, but I do when it's a tad misguided. As David said, a lot of the songs had an outdated sound by the time the album came out, and now, two years later, it sounds even more outdated. I still absolutely LOVE more than half the songs on the album, and think some of them are actually going to prove themselves to be quite timeless.
LOVE (aka, the songs that I think are some of her strongest mainstream material since the Sony days, even though most of them have little depth):
Touch My Body
I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time
I'm That Chick
Side Effects
For the Record
Love Story
Cruise Control
I Wish You Well
MIDDLE OF THE ROAD (aka never listen to them, but don't turn them off if I happen to catch them):
OOC
Thanks For Nothin' (I don't really understand why everyone is so GaGa over this song. It's aiight. The screechy vocals at the end are horrid, and that is what ruins it for me, not to mention JD's craptastic call-out in the beginning.
Last Kiss - I don't really have any strong feelings for it either way. It's neither here nor there, for me.
HATE (never want to listen to, always skip over them immediately):
Migrate - so completely outdated. If it had been released as the first single, she could've capitalized on the T-Pain craze, but after fall of 2008, it was old and sounded extremely outdated. One of the MOST overhyped, overrated tracks of Mariah's entire catalog.
Bye Bye
Fart Like a Whale
Actually, I think that both TEOM and Memoirs would have been infinitely stronger if the strongest tracks from E were dispersed to either album.
