Why not? If you feel as though saying something nice is that much of an imposition on you, you'll probably find it pretty hard to make friends.

And from the smart point of view, she could say something nice so that the whole thing doesn't get blown out of proportion, and Mariah isn't portrayed as being catty, which is inevitably what happens when you give a response like that (whether or not justified).

Dear Leona fan,

Mariah is a singer. She is not vying for president of the Leona Lewis fanclub. Nothing she said was catty. She said she LOVES everyone. But, like all fans of new singers you just have to hear Mariah compliment them by name. Newsflash: she doesn't have to compliment or co-sign the singers you like because you like them. Leona has enough people hyping her up. She doesn't deserve to have Mariah jump on the bandwagon as well. I'd rather this little quote. Then Mariah is WOWED by Leona. Leona's people would spin that into article after article. Leona needs to put in work before she gets to have Mariah Carey mention her name in any capacity.

Sincerely,

Runtellthat.

I love your response (which you seem to think is funny and clever), because you automatically assume I am a massive Leona fan just because I didn't immediately take Mariah's side. And I didn't bother reading the rest of your post because I could immediately tell that you are a Mariah loon who is going to twist every word that is say if it doesn't completely fit in with what you think. For the record, I am far from a Leona fan. I have heard her album, I think it sucks, and doesn't deserve to have sold nearly as much as it has. And Mariah is my favorite artist, so your assumption was completely incorrect. I was just mearly stating that being able to compliment someone is generally a good quality. It isn't hard.
