I think Liron sums it up best when she says:

No one said you shouldn't like it [...] The whole discussion here was stemmed from your frustration that she doesn't make these sort of records anymore. Both you and Jeremy have previously tried attacking her credibility for it and that's what people reacted to. There's a difference between saying "I want her to do AC ballads" and "She doesn't do AC ballads because she wants to be popular".

I think Charmbracelet was a good reflection of her as an artist. It had a little bit of everything. Midtempos, ballads, hip/hop, jazz, gospel. If she was going to make the most true to herself album I think it would be a LOT more gospel. She said numerous times that FLAB was her favorite on TEOM, above all of the midtempos, even above SIO which we know shes crazy about. I don't think she nececcarily loved the production on ballads Music Box and Daydream. The Emotions album was very jazz and soul influenced, and when that flopped, it was Tommy's decision to go running to Pop hills. She wrote the music, but was likely not feeling it. Does that mean I can't like Hero? I know she doesn't particularly love it, but I think it's great. And I know millions agree with me. Same with AYNAF. The rest of the album's ballads are boring IMO and should have been replaced with Do You Think of Me and Everything Fades Away.

Had you articulated this initially, the rest of this thread would have gone in a MUCH different direction. Maybe you just didn't know how to say it at that point, i don't know....but you just weren't getting it.

I think the bottom line here is (actually, there are three bottom lines):

1.) Nobody said you should or shouldn't like something. Like what you like, that's the beauty of having an opinion

2.) You shouldn't attack anybody for not agreeing with you. Having an intelligent discussion where you can UNDERSTAND each others points of view and a heated argument where you are being portrayed as ignorant and thick headed because your comments read as such are two different things.

3.) Never ASSUME that EVERYBODY agrees with you. Sure, there are always people that share the same opinion as you, but for every one person you find that shares the same opinion, there are five more with five totally different opinions. Don't don't lump together "millions" of fans, saying that they agree with you. Because sure, we can all speculate until the cows come home on what influences Mariah the most in her music, but we'll never truly know, as you can never really know a celebrity like Mariah...we all just claim we know everything about Mariah because of her persona.
