I say 'Project' because I think the traditional album is dead. I really want Mariah to come back in a year or two stronger but in a whole new fashion. Beyonce achieved sales because she released her album in a new way with all new videos. We know Mariah isn't a video artist so it wouldn't have the same effect.
I'm thinking and brainstorming but one thing I thought would be cool is if Mariah's next album/project were a phone/tablet app you downloaded (also followed by a traditional iTunes/CD release). Something making the experience much more interactive and something you HAVE to pay for in order to truly have the experience. Perhaps, with download of the app you can download the mp3s or something but I would love her to come back in a fresh way.
Maybe a viral video flash mob? It would be cool if Mariah used the power of YouTube to give her a fresh approach. Picture this... for a few weeks Mariah makes a surprise stop at various cities to debut a new song with a flash mob type performance that is recorded. Even with a slow jam it could work... Mall of America on an afternoon; people are shopping and all of the sudden in the food court the lights dim and a disco ball lowers. Mariah comes out with a new ballad and suddenly the food court is transformed into a prom-type setting. Once it is on YouTube for that week the new song is discounted on iTunes for .50.
Just my ramblings. Like everyone here, I will never give up on Mariah. She is one of the last artists of her kind and should never be counted out; I just want her to progress in the new era of the industry.

Have a single out when the album is released, and if you have a selection of songs a good few of which are very radio friendly, don't go with one that isn't at all

Yes, to all the above. The campaign missed all the critical elements needed for success. Deadlines, singles and a steady build of buzz/hype/interest sweeping outwards steadily that clearly communicates what the campaign is all about. And ultimately, they failed to bring music to consumers in simple, interesting ways that could have led to sale.

Personally, I think the project needs to bleed off what Mariah wants to do next. If she wants the big comeback (again), it times to return to fully fledged pop/R&B in the vein of her 1995 - 2000 formulas (almost what #B did and did it very well). If she isn't bothered and going the route of MIAM once more - which is perfectly commendable and a credible direction - then fine, but take a lesson from other mature AC acts and get your act together on how you bring it to market.

Mariah's next "Project"... How would you do it?

definitely agree on the veins of pop/rnb of 90s. its the only way she can get the attention of everyone again.
nobody does the 90s pop/rnb like mariah. no one comes close, reason why no one even attempted to duplicate (except some like jessica simpson, etc)

HB, Fantasy, ABMB - all these songs with the "mariah feel".

if she still insists on these urban singles, well that's still fine. she's used to flopping by now i guess anyway.

Since she pretty much has eliminated commercial expectations with this album I think Mariah should take this opportunity to experiment and try some very different things outside of her sound. Progressive R&B work, unexpected collabos and features, maybe even going left field into indie or something.

I really hope that she tries something new out of her comfort zone since she can now get away with it if it doesn't sell. Mariah really doesn't need to prove the Mariah sound anymore.

She also needs to deal with her control issues and reinvigorate her team with new blood.

This is true. And in team, her management and label. The ideas are stale, out of touch and there is a lack of true professional talent and vision.

I think this project has been exhausting for everyone. So any campaign that features less drama and more organization will be a big improvement. But more than better promo, I hope to see changes in the music side of things. I want to hear great music accompanying her great vocal, i.e. less BVs and not filling every second of a song with her voice or features, and change or variety in instrumentation, and more heartfelt lyrics/less jokes.

And a manager that lets his work do the talking will be great.

Seriously although we all hated the delays the best thing for this project might have been to totally just disappeared and 'start over' (not a full restart just record new songs to replaced Your Mine, Beautiful and The Art of Letting Go). Then after the world forgot about the mess schedule come back with Thirsty (ala It's Like That) and so on.
