I'll never be over her, she's like my auntie or something since I grew up with her but my level of standom has downgraded a bit because of her performances and her lack of variety in her music (like trying to recreate wbt every album afterwards). I would love her to take some more risks genre wise.

Are you over Mariah?

Never. I also love Whitney Houston a lot. And even when it took her eight years between I'm Your Baby Tonight and My Love Is Your Love, I kept on being a fan. Yes, she did record songs in between those albums, but like many other fans I was waiting like forever till a complete new studio album would be released.

You say "songs" like they were throwaway. She had the greatest triumph of her career which her entire legacy is built on during that time "between albums".

I mean I get it, but c'mon.

I am totally over her. I've been so annoyed with her since Triumphant. That she thought a son so wretched could actually bring any of us joy just really pissed me off.
It was like - who the hell have I been stanning for for half of my life!?
It's like she doesn't care about us at all. She's just proud to put out whatever half assed garbage she can conjur up.
There have been a few bright moments in the last 5 years that have really been the only thing I can hold on to.

It's a Wrap
HATEU

For example

But her awkward stage performances, lip syncing, crappy videos, self indulgent single choices, mismanagement, product hawking self has really turned me off.
She used be a cool, fun, energetic passionate performer with a real commitment to her craft. She's gotten so lazy and uninspired that its a wonder I even care.

If her music and albums hadn't been so important in molding the person I am today, then I would've given up long ago.

The fact remains that she is the greatest vocalist alive, and stands firmly atop the list among true greats. I will always adore and admire her voice, her catalog and always buy and crave new music.

But I used to want to be her friend and thought she was a really interesting and dynamic person. Now she seems like she'd be a real pain in the ass to hang out with.

Oh Mario, this thread...naughty, I'm going to spank you smiley: laugh

Well, its a straight up enough question. No, I'm not over Mariah. Not at all. I see a lot of building issues are bubbling up such as her miming and lack of creation innovation and while these are niggles, they aren't deal breakers for me at all. The key issue for me is this album which I am very over in terms of excitement and anticipation. Too many delays, too little communication and too many promises that are never delivered or half arsed when they finally roll in. Its a shambles.

I'm still interested to hear the album and actually think it could be a real corker when it finally arrives. Its always been about the music for me. Her films, perfumes, nail polish, whatever....always get very little interest from me and no matter what, I will be ready to check what Mariah can produce as an artist. And no matter what, I've got over twenty years of Mariah material so I'll always have that as well. That's a lot of history that I certainly could not or would not want to 'be over' or wipe away.

So the album? Yes, over it and kinda bored. Over Mariah? Never.

We really needed something to spice the board up and who better than the newly-crowned legend to start it?

Not yet.

I loved E=MC², and enjoyed MOAIA. They didn't stay favorites for very long (particularly the latter), and I can no longer listen to E from start to finish. The type of music she's been doing post-comeback isn't long-lasting, it gets old fast. I still like it, since it is Mariah and there's something about her that I can't put a finger on that'll always keep me coming back.

So, I guess if it keeps on going this route, yes, I'll be "over" her. But I'll always have that special place for her.

EDIT:
Thought about it some more. Even now, with the disappointments/delays/cancellations we keep getting, I am still invested in Mariah. That made me realize something; No matter what happens, whether she decided to drop an album full of WBT-remakes or doesn't sing another note ever again, I'll always keep her music in my life. Right now I'm loving "Crybaby". A week ago I was obsessed with the Dreamlover Morales Remix. I just keep coming back to Mariah's music no matter what. Don't really know why, but that's just the way it is. She's the only artist I have this type of connection with.
So, I don't think I'll ever be able to really be over her. I wouldn't want to, either.

Yes, and it's better to have a hiatus, even if it is big, than no break with only sub-par material released. We don't want the same thing over and over

Not because of the album delay. I mean, my music interests have moved to other people YEARS ago... so I really don't care if she never comes out with another album. If she does, fine, I'll definitely check it out. If not... there is other music to enjoy.

Yeah but these fans who are voting that they are 'over' her wouldn't be if the album was coming out tomorrow. People are just sulking because they're not getting the album as promised. Which isn't the fan's fault, but if people were truly over her they wouldn't be posting here.

^While that's totally true, especially for me, you have to have noticed that we have lost 2/3 of the posters we had here back in 2007/2008. It seems a lot of her longtime fans have moved on.

Well, not completely true smiley: smile
I am over her attitude, stubbornness... but not over her music. And i post here because i've been posting here for so long i can't just disconnect, also because i love chatting with some of you so much, it's fun ( Bashing Clowntina, talking about other artists, get news on Mariah's music...)
So yes, you can be over Mariah herself but not Fomm, her music...I will always love/respect her, her music and legacy but i'm over being a hardcore fan. Again, maybe it has to do with me finally growing up and getting too old to stan for anyone.
Anyway, i'm just being honest so don't kill mesmiley: laugh, but like i said before, i could get over it tomorrow if she comes back as determined as she used to be and with a better attitude (about her career and stop thinking that if you don't agree with her you must be a hater). She's still great though, i think we were just spoiled before and some of us can't really adapt to this new Mariah Carey smiley: laugh
I still stan for you guys though smiley: wink

^ I don't think that's necessarily true... Maybe people have moved on from FOMM. I think ticket sales for the mythical tour will tell us how large her fanbase truly is today. I don't think you can measure by messageboard users or even record sales anymore, given the year on year decline, especially since 2005/6.

I also agree with Kevo's 'sulking lambs' theory.
